Phlebotomy Field Operations – Key Responsibilities

Daily Field Operations & Staff Support
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for field-based Phlebotomy staff, including AM and STAT teams.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for callouts and staffing concerns.

  • Be willing and available to provide coverage wherever staffing support is needed.

  • Ensure all assigned active clients are scheduled, staffed, and covered appropriately, compliantly, and in a timely manner.

  • Help ensure all collected samples arrive at the laboratory no later than 11:00 AM.

Staffing, Recruiting & Scheduling
  • Work closely with the Field Operations Manager to ensure recruiting and hiring needs are met to support client coverage.

  • Schedule candidate interviews.

  • Schedule new-hire orientations.

  • Assist with staffing coverage and identify potential gaps before they impact client service.

  • Follow up promptly on call-outs and coverage needs.

Quality, Compliance & Performance
  • Review and follow up on errors, including:

    • PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans)

    • Retraining requirements

    • Repeated or ongoing errors

  • Follow up with Phlebotomy Technicians who fail to fax required documentation.

  • Follow up with Technicians when required Draw Logs are not signed.

  • Be available to assist with critical issues as needed.

  • Provide or coordinate retraining when performance or compliance issues are identified.

  • Ensure all staff maintain the appropriate credentials and required documentation.

  • Create and maintain annual competency testing for applicable staff.

Supplies & Inventory
  • Complete supply orders with a 2–3 business day turnaround.

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels.

  • Ensure the supply room remains fully stocked and organized.

  • Monitor supply needs proactively to prevent shortages that could affect field operations.

Laboratory Support
  • Assist the Lab Accessioning Team as needed with receiving and labeling activities.

  • Provide additional operational support during critical or high-volume periods.

Overall Expectations

The position is responsible for helping maintain reliable staffing, timely client coverage, compliance, quality, and communication across field-based Phlebotomy operations. Proactive communication and timely follow-up are essential to ensuring uninterrupted service to all assigned clients.
