Opportunity: To work for a highly acclaimed organization that constructed the nation’s only publicly funded AIDS monument and utilizes a community-based organizing model to address social justice issues and provide health education and wellness prevention programs such as substance abuse, mental health, transitional age youth, and HIV/AIDS. Mission Statement: The Wall-Las Memorias Project is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving Latino, LGBT, and other underserved populations through advocacy, education, and building the next generation of leadership.
Description: The Community Organizer will be responsible for conducting outreach and providing culturally competent education and awareness on key issues including mental health, physical health, substance use and abuse, and available family and youth resources. This role will specifically focus on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and families from underserved populations.
The Community Organizer will assist in the development and facilitation of both in-person and virtual activities, training, and workshops aimed at increasing community knowledge, reducing stigma, and improving access to essential services. These efforts will include resource navigation and direct linkages to appropriate services for mental health support, healthcare access, substance use prevention and treatment, and family/youth support networks. Objective Goals and Service/Activities (but not limited to): The Community Organizer will
conduct outreach and linkage services to individuals in communities in need of resources. This person will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to identifying, engaging, and recruiting community members in assigned service areas and Supervisorial District in need of services. The community organizer will also ensure client information and materials distributed are appropriately tracked and documented. This position will require travel within the neighborhoods and
communities served.
Minimum Qualifications:
%CF; Associate degree or equivalent in social welfare, public health, or related field.
%CF; One (1) year of experience providing health-related prevention services prior to employment
%CF; Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and public speaking skills
%CF; Must be comfortable with public speaking, giving presentations, and facilitating group discussions.
%CF; Sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ communities and underserved populations.
%CF; Must be knowledgeable of local communities.
%CF; Must be a team player- work well with a diverse team
%CF; Good understanding of the wellness and healthcare needs of underserved communities and the ability to work well with diverse populations and stakeholders.
%CF; Knowledge in engaging and/or organizing community members, businesses, and community leaders in the implementation/adoption of a community and/or population based effort
%CF; Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
