Job Description:\n\nMIDLAND COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE SERVICES, INC.\nMidland, Texas\nJOB DESCRIPTION\n\nJob Title: CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT\nDEPARTMENT: COLEMAN / WOMEN’S SERVICES / PEDIATRICS\nREPORTS TO: CLINIC MANAGER / CHARGE NURSE\nOES CODE: 31-9092\nFLSA EXEMPTIONS STATUS: NON-EXEMPT\n \nJOB SUMMARY\nCertified Medical Assistants play an important supporting role to the staff and patients of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while performing tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medication as directed by physicians. Certified Medical Assistants are utilized based on their scope of practice and the scope of their abilities. Certified Medical Assistants are evaluated and credentialed individually to determine their own unique scope of abilities.\n \n\nJOB DUTIES\n\nInterview patients in order to obtain medical histories, vital statistics, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, and obtain any information such as test results in order to place them in the medical record.\nReview records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulation.\nPrepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.\nClean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy.\nParticipate in cross-training opportunities in order to help other departments as needed.\nPrepare and administer medication, immunization, shots, and vaccines as directed by a physician.**\nAs directed by physicians educate patients with regard to treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician’s instructions.\nCollect blood via finger stick, collect urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for laboratory testing through the proper vendor procedure.**\nAssist physician as needed in examining and treating patients during procedures, ensuring that proper tools and supplies are available.\nMaintain patient charts in the electronic medical record system, while ensuring accuracy of the patient record.\nUpdate patient records as required.\nSend patient correspondence as required through clinic procedure.\nMaintain clinical supplies through the proper procurement procedure.\nAssist in maintaining proper stock and inventory of medical supplies.\nAssist in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization.\nPerforms other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager and/or Charge Nurse.\n\n \n** Scope of Abilities – Denotes tasks that require individual evaluation and credentialing before a Certified Medical Assistant is deemed proficient to perform the task requested.\n \n \n \nJob Description – Certified Medical Assistant\nRevised: 12/2013\n\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nNo Supervisory Responsibilities are included in this position.\n\n__________________________________________________________________________________________________­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­\nCRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES\n\nCustomer Service Oriented.\nOral Comprehension, Expression, Recognition, and Clarity.\nWritten Comprehension and Expression.\nComputer & Technology Skills – The ability to type, to navigate, and to utilize Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn to navigate and utilize proprietary medical software packages.\nTime Management – The ability to prioritize tasks in order to best serve the patient and the flow of the clinic.\nCultural Competency – The ability to dial with people of various cultures and social status, as well as outside entities.\n\n__________________________________________________________________________________________________\nQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS\n\nMust have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.\n1 – 3 years of customer service experience preferred.\n1 – 3 years of medical assisting experience preferred.\nMedical Assistant Certificate from a recognized institution. Certificate must be kept up to date.\nNo felony results on a criminal background screening.\nDrug Screen Test with a negative result.\n\n__________________________________________________________________________________________________\n\nTRAINING REQUIRED \nCertified Medical Assistants must complete all the education and training modules on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and print out the certificate of training for each module. They must also be checked off on injection skills as per company policy. Employees in this class will be offered vaccination provided by Midland Community Healthcare Services.\n \nPhysical Demand: Ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services. Employees will need the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary. Vision abilities are required to read and verify patient information, to read information on medical records, and read information on computer systems.\nWriting, speaking, and typing abilities are required in order to interview and triage the patient then document information in the electronic medical charts. Ability to pull, push, lift, and manipulate equipment and files. The ability to move freely about the front office and medical record areas in order to perform the job duties is required.
