Job Description

Job Description
Hi-Pot and Breaker Test Technician — Switchgear Systems

Power systems must perform flawlessly—whether in a new installation or a critical refurbishment. In this role, you’ll be the last line before our low- and medium-voltage switchgear goes into the field. Your testing and assembly work will confirm that every connection, component, and breaker aligns with our engineering standards.

Your mission

Imagine a medium-voltage breaker returning from refurbishment. You review the engineering packet, configure the wiring, and perform a Hi-Pot test. The oscilloscope trace looks clean, the multimeter confirms continuity, and your data log matches the blueprint. When something isn’t right, you trace the schematic, verify point-to-point wiring, and correct the assembly—then document everything.

Core responsibilities
  • Test and verify LV/MV switchgear, cell-level assemblies, and subcomponents using AC dielectric testers, AC/DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, current sources, and electronic loads.
  • Apply foundational electro-mechanical principles to confirm cell configurations, wire terminations, and subassembly performance.
  • Configure and test low- and medium-voltage breakers for both new builds and refurbishments per engineering documentation.
  • Read/interpret drawings, codes, schematics, manuals, blueprints, and procedures; record data precisely in required formats.
  • Install units, components, wiring, and casings using rivets, bolts, and connectors; perform both electrical wiring/assembly and mechanical assembly tasks.
  • Plan, lay out, assemble, or fabricate mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic/hydraulic equipment as needed.
  • Use painting/finishing methods and hand/power tools appropriately and safely.
How we’ll support you

You’ll begin in a structured training status. Early assignments are completed under close supervision, with all work checked for quality and accuracy. As your experience grows, you’ll gain more independence and decision-making latitude.
