POSITION SUMMARY

Regents School of Austin seeks an experienced, strategic, and visionary Chief of Safety & Security to lead and oversee a comprehensive campus safety and security program. Serving a community of 1,050+ students and 200+ faculty/staff on an 83-acre suburban campus, this position ensures that the Regents community thrives in a safe, Christ-centered environment.

This role requires a leader with extensive experience in law enforcement, emergency management, or security operations, capable of balancing strong security measures with the warmth and vibrancy of a private school community. The Chief of Safety & Security is responsible for anticipating and mitigating threats, leading first response efforts, and cultivating a culture of safety throughout the school.

This is an armed position; the individual must hold appropriate credentials and maintain all training necessary to provide a high level of protection on campus. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and collaborates closely with the Senior Team, serving as Incident Commander during emergencies and leading a security advisory team composed of internal and external experts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Risk Management

  • Serve as Incident Commander and first responder to all emergencies on campus

  • Lead strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of campus safety and security programs

  • Evaluate the school's overall risk profile, including facilities, transportation, field trips, athletic events, and off-campus experiences

  • Conduct annual internal safety and security assessments; facilitate an external audit every three years

  • Develop the department's annual operating plan aligned with Regents' strategic objectives

  • Maintain situational awareness of internal and external threats; proactively implement preventative measures

Program Oversight & Training

  • Develop, schedule, and lead training programs, drills, and assessments for employees, volunteers, coaches, and substitutes

  • Ensure policies, procedures, and emergency operational plans are reviewed and updated annually

  • Oversee campus security technology, including visitor management systems, access control, license plate recognition, and surveillance equipment

  • Manage the department's annual operating budget with a focus on stewardship, efficiency, and alignment with strategic priorities

Collaboration & Community Relations

  • Serve as primary liaison with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management agencies

  • Coordinate with health authorities for community health concerns and emergency responses

  • Support investigations involving students, staff, and faculty as needed

  • Host security-focused gatherings and serve as a consultant to other Christian schools

  • Maintain a visible presence on campus while fostering a positive, approachable relationship with students, staff, and families

Culture & Team Integration

  • Uphold and model Regents' Christ-centered culture, demonstrating servant leadership, grace, and integrity in all interactions

  • Develop strong relationships with colleagues to foster teamwork, relational unity, and spiritual growth

  • Support team members in school-wide initiatives and operational goals

  • Act as a "culture-keeper" to ensure security programs align with the school's mission and values

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (job-related field preferred)

  • Extensive law enforcement, security, or emergency management experience required

  • Strong experience in risk assessment, security planning, and first response

  • Firearms training and certifications required; CPR & First Aid certifications required

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Commitment to ongoing professional, personal, and spiritual growth
