Custodian

We are seeking a Custodian to join our Team!Position Summary:Responsible for maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff, visitors and the public. Provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and other events as needed. Minimize property damage, loss and liability exposures to the Academy.Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalentMinimum of 2 years of school or industrial experience preferred; however, candidates with other janitorial experience will also be considered. Required to perform multiple non-technical tasksSelf-motivated and positive attitudeAbility to perform basic math, read and follow instructions and understand multi-step written and oral instructionsGood organizational skillsKnowledge of custodial supplies and cleaning methods and techniquesAbility to operate various types of equipment (vacuums, floor buffers, etc.)Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methodsAbility to communicate clearly both orally and written with staff, students, visitors and the publicProblem solving Responsibilities: Arrange furnishings and equipment in preparation for meetings, classroom activities and events as neededAttend all professional development/in-service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, first aid, cleaning solvents, floor care, etc.)Clean assigned areas to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environmentDaily attendance and punctuality are required to meet the goals of the work unitResponsible to immediate safety and/or operational concerns to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning physical and educational environmentInspect Academy facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations; maintain in an attractive and clean condition and identify any repairs that may be necessary due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.Perform work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for the purpose of cleaning, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.Prepare Academy facilities for daily operations to ensure Academy facilities are operational and safeSecure Academy facilities (e.g., locked doors) and ground to minimize property damage, equipment loss and any potential liability to the AcademyService job-related machinery/equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling vacuums, cleaners, scrubbers, etc.) to maintain equipment in good working condition. Also, change burses, pad, rollers, etc. on equipment as neededPerform other related duties as assigned Other Requirements:Satisfactory criminal background checksAdditional training as needed or required Physical and Environmental Requirements:This position requires extensive standing and walking throughout the work shift. Must have the ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to use senses: sight, hearing, smell and touch. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under some hazardous conditions.
