About the Role:

The Facilities and Maintenance Superintendent ensures a safe, clean, and fully operational environment for children and staff. This role oversees daily upkeep, schedules repairs, and maintains compliance with state childcare licensing, health codes, and safety laws collaborating closely with the Regional Director of Operations and Site Administrators to prioritize maintenance tasks and respond promptly to urgent repair needs. Ultimately, this position supports operational continuity and cost savings by maintaining high standards of equipment reliability and facility upkeep. This position leads all matters related to building facilities across several locations.

.Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance Management

  • Enforce Codes: Maintain strict compliance with state childcare licensing regulations and health department codes.

Daily Operations & Repairs

  • Hands-on Maintenance: Perform urgent repairs on plumbing, minor electrical fixtures, hardware, and drywall.
  • HVAC & Systems: Monitor heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to ensure comfortable classroom temperatures.
  • Janitorial Supervision: Oversee cleaning staff to guarantee rigorous sanitization of classrooms and bathrooms.
  • Groundskeeper Oversight: Manage vendors for pest control, trash removal, etc...
  • Winter Snow Removal

Budgeting & Vendor Management

  • Vendor Coordination: Hire, schedule, and supervise specialized external contractors for major repairs.
  • Inventory Control: Purchase and track inventory for cleaning supplies, maintenance tools, and repair parts.
  • Budget Planning: Help leadership forecast annual maintenance costs and long-term capital improvements.

Qualifications & Skills Preferred

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in facilities management, preferably in childcare, school, or healthcare settings.
  • Certifications: Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or playground safety certification (CPSI) is a major plus.
  • Technical Skill: Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in maintenance work, including electrical, or plumbing systems.
  • Basic knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work after 6pm and/or on weekends is required as part of a 40 hour work week.
  • Clearances: Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and child abuse registry clearance.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Maintenance professional to effectively perform inspections, diagnose issues, and execute repairs with precision and safety. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members, vendors, and management to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks efficiently. Problem-solving abilities allow the individual to quickly identify root causes of malfunctions and implement effective solutions. Strong attention to detail and ability to supervise at least one other employee/facilities person essential.
