Qualification Standards

Education & Experience:

  • At least 1 year of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field required
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Tools & Equipment:

  • Computer, copier, scanner, other office equipment, telephone, two way radios
  • Industrial washers and dryers, industrial presser, vacuum, buffer, extractor, housekeeping carts, lobby carts, elevators, brooms, buckets, mops, fax machine

Work Environment:

  • Under variable temperature conditions
  • Under variable noise levels
  • Outdoors/Indoors
  • Around chemicals, fumes and or odor hazards
  • Around dust and or mite hazards

Physical Requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required
  • Medium work – Lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, stoop or reach with your body and arms repeatedly without difficulty
  • Ability to stand for long hours and walk long distances without fatigue
  • Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range

Mental Requirements:

  • Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey & understand information and ideas in English
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from multiple sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests
  • Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand basic arithmetic functions
  • Must be able to identify differences and similarities, detect changes in circumstances or events and analyze and evaluate results; choosing the best solution to solve problems.
  • Multi-lingual skills helpful

Duties & Functions

Essential:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with New Castle standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper business attire and nametag when working
  • Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets specifications and established standards.
  • Select the most suitable cleaning materials for different types of linens, furniture, flooring and surfaces
  • Instruct staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment
  • Secure issued keys at all times, report lost or stolen keys immediately
  • Follow proper SOP on entering and securing guest rooms
  • Report all lost and found items to service express
  • Report any maintenance repairs immediately to service express
  • Keep immediate supervisors fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring his/her attention
  • Communicate to supervisors/managers any performance challenges that may require actions, such as: promotions, transfers and dismissals
  • Advise managers, front desk agents, or admitting personnel of rooms ready for occupancy
  • Notify Room Attendant(s) of any deficiencies found in room, and not on Attendant’s board. Provide coaching to Room Attendant and provide visual examples whenever possible
  • Re-inspect corrected rooms
  • Enter room status into rooms system
  • Inspect Room Attendant carts, closets and boards
  • Assist with on-going training
  • Clean guest rooms when needed
  • Completes a floor walk of all floors, inspects carpets, walls, ashtrays, mirrors & lights daily
  • Balance and prepare individual paperwork for closing of shift
  • Connect with the manager on duty at the front office prior to leaving the shift

Marginal

  • Participate in all hotel and departmental meetings as requested
  • Other duties as required
