Housekeeping/Laundry
Job Description
Responsible for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the areas assigned, which may include: Independent Living common areas, Rotunda Assisted Living, Wesley Village, and Health Care units, and the common areas of the Rotunda building. Responsible for providing laundry services for the Health Care Unit and for Health Care residents. Responsible for providing housekeeping and laundry for Independent Living residents who request housekeeping services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Laundry Duties:
Responsible for completing assigned laundry duties for the Skilled Nursing Facility, Nutrition Services (Rotunda), and Beauty Shop (Rotunda) in accordance with standardized processes, including but not limited to the following:
- Launders linens.
- Launders resident’s soiled personal laundry.
- Sorts laundry according to established processes.
- Pre-cleans excessively soiled laundry using standardized processes.
- Operates industrial washers and dryers according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Folds and hangs laundry. Places linens and clothing in carts/baskets
- Delivers resident laundry to resident rooms. Places folded clothes in the resident’s dresser. Places hanging clothes in closet.
- When delivering laundry, check the top of the closet to see that all items are at least 18 inches from the ceiling.
- Delivers linens to each department.
- Cleans dryer lint traps at the end of each shift.
- Labels resident clothes
- Dispenses and replenishes chemicals for washers in automated dispensing system.
- Reports and documents missing resident clothing.
- Makes minor repairs to resident clothing items. Reports damaged items that cannot be repaired to Housekeeping Supervisor.
-Uses safety precautions and established safety policies/procedures, such as placing "wet floor signs" when performing tasks, and when using equipment and supplies.
Follows established safety precautions when performing tasks, and manufacturer directions when using equipment and supplies.
-Monitors work areas for safety hazards and concerns. Reports hazardous conditions/equipment immediately to Housekeeping Supervisor.
-Monitors resident rooms for safety violations, including, but not limited to:
· Use of extension cords (in Health Care, Assisted Living and Wesley Village)
· Storage of items within 18 inches of ceiling.
· Monitors food items in resident rooms for presence of date. Labels food items with date, as needed. (in Health Care, Assisted Living and Wesley Village).
-Places work orders for Maintenance to address safety concerns, as needed.
-Keeps work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment/supplies, etc.
-Cleans cleaning cart as needed. In licensed areas, due to the health condition of some residents, the cleaning cart must be within view at all times. Otherwise, when not in use, it must be kept in the locked utility room.
-Follows proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Follows safety precautions outlined in MSDS sheet. Refers to manufacturer’s directions when necessary.
-Follows established infection control and universal precaution practices when performing housekeeping and laundry duties.
-Documents assignments according to department protocol. Turns documentation into Housekeeping Supervisor weekly.
-Prepares bar code charges, to be scanned for Independent Living resident apartment/cottage cleaning time.
-Checks supply room and supply cart weekly and as needed, to assure that cleaning supplies are available for use. Orders supplies from Purchasing department as needed.
