Job Description
Overview
BigBear.ai is hiring Cloud Infrastructure Engineers to build and maintain the underlying government cloud infrastructure that supports the program’s polyglot database stack. Working alongside the DevOps/Platform Engineer (who owns CI/CD and the event backbone), this role owns the compute, storage, and networking foundation that everything else depends on, ensuring the environment is scalable, secure, and compliant for IL5 operations.
This is a remote role however there will be travel expectations within the DMV area.
Responsibilities
- Design, provision, and operate core cloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking) in AWS GovCloud or Azure Government.
- Build and maintain infrastructure that supports a polyglot data platform (relational, graph, document, and object storage services), including environment sizing and scaling patterns.
- Implement infrastructure as code (Terraform) for repeatable, auditable provisioning across dev/test/prod environments.
- Own network and connectivity design and operations (VPC/VNet configuration, subnets, routing, security groups/NACLs, private connectivity patterns, DNS).
- Partner with data engineering and platform teams to ensure database services are performant, highly available, and recoverable (backup/restore, replication, and DR patterns).
- Support Kubernetes infrastructure needs (cluster foundations, node groups, storage classes, ingress/egress patterns) in coordination with the platform team.
- Implement and maintain IL5-aligned infrastructure controls and evidence (configuration baselines, hardening, vulnerability remediation, and continuous compliance tooling).
- Establish operational readiness: monitoring/alerting for infrastructure components, runbooks, capacity planning inputs, and incident support.
Qualifications
- Clearance: Must maintain a Top Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's Degree and 8 to 10 years of experience; Master's Degree and 6 to 8 years of experience; (in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 6 additional years of relevant experience)
- 5+ years of cloud infrastructure engineering experience, including delivery and operations in a government cloud environment
- Demonstrated experience provisioning and operating multi-service infrastructure that supports multiple database paradigms (relational, graph, document, and object storage)
- Strong infrastructure as code skills (Terraform) and configuration management discipline
- Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government, including secure networking patterns
- Solid Kubernetes foundation knowledge (infrastructure integration, storage/networking support, and cluster-adjacent services)
- Experience working in compliance-driven environments, including IL5 requirements and associated compliance tooling/practices
- IC/DoD experience
