We are looking for an experienced Civil Site Foreman / Senior Foreman who wants to be more than someone who simply directs a crew. This is a leadership position for someone who understands how a civil site project actually gets built and can take ownership of field execution. THE OPPORTUNITY As a Civil Site Foreman / Senior Foreman, you will serve as a high-level field leader responsible for executing DSM’s established field operations, standards, and project structure under the direction of the Superintendent and Project Management team. The position functions as a field leadership role. You will lead crews, work with other foremen, coordinate multiple phases of construction, maintain production, enforce safety and quality standards, and communicate field conditions to leadership. DSM’s expectations are straightforward: Execute the plan. Develop people. Solve problems. Communicate. Deliver results. You are not being hired to create your own system or operate independently of DSM’s structure. You are being hired to execute DSM’s system consistently and help make the field operation better. WHAT YOU WILL DO Field Leadership & Execution · Direct daily field operations in alignment with the Superintendent’s direction · Lead crews, foremen, and field personnel toward established production goals · Maintain a strong and consistent presence on active jobsites · Ensure work is performed according to project plans, drawings, specifications, and DSM procedures · Drive productivity, efficiency, accountability, and teamwork · Identify field problems before they become project problems · Take ownership of field performance and results Sub-Superintendent / Senior Field Leadership When required, you will: · Act as the field lead in the Superintendent’s absence · Coordinate multiple crews, phases, and scopes of work · Help enforce project schedules and sequencing · Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and workflow · Communicate critical project conditions, risks, delays, and needs to leadership · Support decision-making within DSM’s established structure · Help maintain alignment between field operations and project objectives The DSM Foreman role calls for the ability to step into Superintendent-level responsibilities when needed. CIVIL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE The successful candidate should understand the practical execution of civil site construction, including as applicable: · Earthwork and grading · Excavation and backfill · Site utilities · Stormwater systems · Drainage · Concrete · Asphalt paving · Erosion and sediment control · Site development · Equipment operation and coordination · Material delivery and logistics You must be able to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, plans, and project scope and translate them into organized field execution. DSM’s established role specifically requires coordination across these civil scopes. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE Safety is a leadership responsibility at DSM. You will be expected to: · Enforce DSM safety policies and OSHA requirements · Maintain safe, clean, and organized jobsites · Identify and immediately correct unsafe conditions · Lead by example · Ensure crews follow required PPE and safe-work practices · Participate in safety meetings and inspections · Communicate safety concerns immediately to management · Never sacrifice safety for production A successful Foreman understands that production, quality, and safety must work together. QUALITY CONTROL You will be responsible for helping ensure work is completed correctly the first time. This includes: · Following project plans and specifications · Maintaining DSM workmanship standards · Identifying deficiencies before inspections · Correcting problems promptly · Maintaining consistent quality across crews · Supporting successful inspections · Supporting project turnover and closeout SCHEDULING & FIELD COORDINATION You will help turn the project schedule into daily field execution. Responsibilities include: · Executing project schedules as directed · Coordinating manpower and equipment · Coordinating materials and deliveries · Identifying scheduling conflicts · Communicating solutions to leadership · Coordinating subcontractors and internal crews · Supporting efficient resource allocation between projects CREW LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT DSM is looking for someone who can develop people—not simply direct them. You will: · Lead by example · Mentor foremen and crew leaders · Teach proper field execution · Reinforce DSM standards and expectations · Hold employees accountable · Help less-experienced employees develop their skills · Promote teamwork and professionalism · Help build stronger and more capable field teams DISPATCH, EQUIPMENT & LOGISTICS Because DSM is a small civil contractor, the Foreman must understand that field leadership extends beyond the immediate crew. You may assist with: · Driver dispatch · Material deliveries · Equipment movement · Equipment coordination between projects · Jobsite logistics · Communication with office personnel · Identifying field resource needs · Ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are available when needed You will also be expected to maintain accountability for company resources and immediately report shortages, damage, misuse, or equipment concerns. FIELD ADMINISTRATION & DOCUMENTATION You will be expected to accurately complete required field documentation, including: · Daily reports · Manpower tracking · Production information · Job progress · Field conditions · Delays · Material/equipment needs · Other project documentation required by DSM Accurate documentation is part of the job—not an optional administrative task. WHAT DSM IS LOOKING FOR Required / Strongly Preferred · Proven experience as a Civil Foreman, Senior Foreman, Working Foreman, or similar field leadership position · Strong hands-on civil construction experience · Knowledge of sitework, grading, utilities, drainage, concrete, asphalt, and/or erosion control · Ability to read construction plans and specifications · Experience leading construction crews · Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work areas · Strong understanding of jobsite safety · Ability to communicate effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and field employees · Reliable transportation to jobsites · Valid driver’s license · Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions · Ability to work the hours required to meet project demands A Strong Candidate Will Also Have · Experience working on commercial or government projects · Experience coordinating multiple crews · Experience mentoring other foremen · Strong equipment knowledge · Strong problem-solving ability · Excellent organizational skills · Ability to anticipate problems before they occur · Ability to communicate clearly under pressure · A strong work ethic and dependable attendance · Desire to advance into Superintendent-level responsibility WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AT DSM Your performance will be measured by more than whether the crew is busy.
