Senior Assistant Manager

We operate a Häagen-Dazs boutique shop in the heart of Del Mar, steps from the beach. We're a locally owned franchise focused on premium product quality, warm guest experiences, and a well-run, tight-knit team.

Position Summary
The Assistant Store Manager owns day-to-day operations of the shop: leading the team, delivering an exceptional guest experience, maintaining brand and food safety standards, and driving sales and profitability. This role reports directly to the owners.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and close the store; ensure accurate till counts, deposits, and daily closing paperwork
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise scoopers and shift leads; manage timekeeping and approve hours for payroll
• Ensure compliance with California meal/rest break requirements and minor work permit rules where applicable
• Maintain Häagen-Dazs brand standards for product handling, portioning, presentation, and store cleanliness
• Enforce food safety standards (temperature logs, sanitation, product rotation/FIFO) and maintain health department readiness
• 4Manage inventory: place orders, receive deliveries, control waste, and track COGS
• Handle guest concerns and escalate facility or vendor issues (equipment, utilities, property management) to owners
• Support local marketing efforts, community events, and partnership programs
• Track daily sales performance and communicate trends and staffing needs to ownership

Qualifications

• 2+ years supervisory experience in food service, QSR, or retail (ice cream/dessert experience a plus)
• California Food Handler Card required; ServSafe Manager certification preferred (or obtained within 30 days of hire)
• Comfortable with POS systems, scheduling tools, and basic reporting
• Available to work weekends, holidays, and evenings — including peak summer season
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs (freezer stock handling)
• Reliable, honest, and calm under a summer rush

Compensation & Benefits

• $22 per hour
