Coil Line Operator - 2nd Shift

Owen Industries
Carter Lake, IA, US Full Time

Job Description

Job Description

Coil Line Operator | Competitive Pay ($2/hr shift differential)

PVS Metals (Owen Industries) – Carter Lake, IA (near downtown Omaha) | Full-Time | Monday–Friday

Run the Line. Own the Operation. Build a Career in Steel.

PVS Metals is hiring a Coil Line Operator for our Cut-to-Length (CTL) line in Omaha. The CTL line processes large steel coils into flat sheets cut to customer specification — and you’ll be the operator responsible for running the stacking, loading, and material handling side of that operation. From managing dunnage placement and verifying squareness to running an overhead crane and tracking material through our system, this is a hands-on production role where your precision and reliability directly drive quality and throughput.

Full on-the-job training is provided. If you’re ready to take ownership of a critical production role and grow your knowledge of one of the most important pieces of equipment in a steel service center — this is the job.

What You’ll Do

  • Stack and load steel sheets from the CTL line in accordance with job specifications and production requirements
  • Place boards and dunnage on the stacker per job specs to ensure proper material staging
  • Verify squareness of product coming off the line; identify and correct or report any deviations
  • Ensure the correct coil or material is loaded into the machine before each run
  • Operate overhead crane independently using remote controls to move material from the line
  • Transfer finished material into storage locations accurately using OPTS tracking software
  • Check quality against job specifications and mill tolerances; report any deviations to supervision
  • Perform preventive maintenance routines on CTL line equipment
  • Inspect equipment status and report any defects to the maintenance department and supervisor
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with ISO standards and company procedures

What We’re Looking For

  • Overhead crane operation experience preferred; certification required or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Prior experience in a steel service center, manufacturing, or industrial production environment a plus
  • Ability to learn and take ownership of CTL line operations through structured on-the-job training
  • Strong attention to detail — ability to verify squareness, material ID, and quality against specs
  • Organized and accountable — takes full ownership of work area and responsibilities
  • Collaborative team member who contributes to overall production goals
  • Commitment to safety in all crane and equipment operations
  • Good attendance and punctuality
