Position Overview
The Civil Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, investigation, design, and construction of civil and site-related projects across commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure markets.
This role combines technical engineering with field and project coordination responsibilities. The Civil Engineer may support site development, utilities, foundations, pavements, drainage, earthwork, geotechnical coordination, and construction-phase engineering while working closely with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities- Support the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering and site development projects.
- Prepare civil engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Assist with site grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, pavement, and earthwork design.
- Review site plans, grading plans, utility plans, and construction documents for technical accuracy and constructability.
- Coordinate civil designs with structural, geotechnical, architectural, environmental, and other engineering disciplines.
- Evaluate existing site conditions and assist with developing practical engineering recommendations.
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction observations.
- Assist with subsurface investigations and incorporate geotechnical recommendations into civil and site designs.
- Support foundation, pavement, site utility, and earthwork-related engineering activities.
- Coordinate permitting and project requirements with local and state agencies.
- Prepare and respond to RFIs, submittals, design revisions, and construction-related technical questions.
- Assist Project Managers with project schedules, budgets, proposals, and client communication.
- Monitor construction activities for general compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Work with field inspection and testing personnel to address construction and material-related concerns.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and technical records.
- Manage multiple assignments while maintaining established project schedules and quality standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 2–7+ years of civil engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for more experienced candidates.
- Experience with civil/site design, construction engineering, or infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of grading, drainage, utilities, pavements, earthwork, and general site development.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, and geotechnical drawings.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, reports, plans, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a consulting engineering environment.
- Experience with geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, or geostructural projects.
- Experience with commercial, residential, industrial, education, healthcare, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, or drainage design.
- Knowledge of site utilities, pavement design, retaining structures, and foundation systems.
- Experience performing construction observations or field inspections.
- Familiarity with local and state permitting requirements.
- Experience coordinating directly with contractors, owners, architects, and regulatory agencies.
