Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Wheeling, IL
Duties and Requirements of the Job:
Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on extrusion machinery, which produces plastic and tubular shapes. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, installing new equipment, and keeping records of work performed. They collaborate with production staff, ensure safety compliance, and often require physical stamina and technical knowledge of extrusion processes.
- Performs such individual assignments as the supervisor may direct; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, coworkers etc; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Troubleshoots, electrical and mechanical to identify equipment or machines in need of repair and make those repairs.
- Plans repair work using drawings or equipment manual as needed.
- Welding, fabricating and metal repair of equipment.
- Completes order requests for supplies and materials needed in repairs and maintenance and/or provide list to Manager for order.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems in electrical systems, PLC controls, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
- Maintain production machinery, electrical & mechanical systems and equipment.
- Adhere to safety protocols, conduct inspections, and participate in safety training to maintain a safe work environment.
Training, Knowledge and Experience (May Be Required or Preferred, at the discretion of the hiring team)
- At least three years of experience in production maintenance.
- At least three years of experience in working with 12-volt through 480-volt electrical circuits.
- At least three years of experience maintaining process control systems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Vocational diploma or degree education and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions
- Lifts and / or carries up to 75 pounds.
- Maneuvers in, around, under and about factory and / or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
- Some of the work time is spent sitting, standing, walking, lifting and bending. In man lifts and on silos.
- Works within a manufacturing, office and mechanical shop setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.
- May be required to travel to other sites or customer sites as needed.
- Eye protection, hearing protection, and other PPE required.
- Steel-toed shoes are required on manufacturing and warehouse floor.
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:
- 8–10-hour shift Monday through Friday
- On call- weekend availability
- Overtime
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
