Job Description
Step into a rewarding role shaping the educational journey of middle and high school students with diverse learning needs. This contract position runs from August 13, 2026, through June 3, 2027, aligning with the traditional school schedule. As a Special Education Teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a caseload of 15-18 students, primarily supporting those with high levels of autism who follow the extended content standard. This position involves both adapted curriculum and inclusion/resource settings, ensuring a rich and impactful professional experience.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Adapted Curriculum License (required for Discovery School opening)
- Previous experience working in special education within a school environment
- Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective instructional strategies for students with significant needs
- Capacity to manage caseloads of middle and high school students
- Flexibility and strong communication skills to work collaboratively with other educators, administrators, and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and adapt individualized instruction for students following extended content standards
- Utilize evidence-based practices to promote academic, social, and life skills development
- Collaborate with general education teachers for inclusion/resource models
- Maintain accurate student records and progress reports
- Communicate regularly with families, therapists, and school personnel to ensure cohesive support
- Foster a positive, safe, and engaging classroom environment
This is a full-time weekday role, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm, with up to 40 hours per week. Assignments will be at different schools with varying inclusion and resource needs, offering valuable variety to your daily teaching experience.
