Job Description
Make an immediate impact in the lives of high school students through a contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher, focusing on Essential Life Skills. Based in the vibrant community near Independence, MO, this role is ideal for passionate educators eager to support a small, dedicated caseload. Work onsite with a group of 7-9 high school students, helping to foster independence and prepare them for real-world success in a collaborative and supportive school environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification (state-appropriate)
- Experience working with high school students in a life skills or essential skills program
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to create an inclusive, structured, and positive classroom culture
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction for essential life skills curriculum tailored to individual student needs
- Develop, implement, and track IEP goals in collaboration with fellow educators and families
- Provide consistent behavioral and academic support, encouraging student independence
- Maintain clear records and progress reports
- Communicate regularly with parents, related service providers, and school leadership
- Foster a nurturing, supportive atmosphere that helps students thrive
