We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a part-time Contract position based in Portland, Maine. This role will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, guiding month-end activities, and ensuring the integrity of general ledger balances. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a detail-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead month-end close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing balances, and helping ensure timely completion of financial reporting tasks.
• Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation to maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
• Manage general ledger activity by reviewing transactions, researching discrepancies, and keeping accounts properly aligned.
• Perform account reconciliations on a recurring basis to verify balances and resolve variances efficiently.
• Complete bank reconciliations by comparing statements to internal records and investigating outstanding items.
• Support the accuracy of financial data within QuickBooks through regular review, maintenance, and correction of account activity.
• Assist with ad hoc accounting analysis and reporting needs to support day-to-day finance operations.• At least 3 years of accounting experience, including responsibility for core close and reconciliation processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close tasks with a high level of accuracy and organization.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
• Experience performing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations in a fast-paced business environment.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence navigating accounting systems and financial records.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to work independently in a part-time role.
