Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Kenner, LA

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at a professional level
• EIPA score of 4.0 (with written component), or nationally recognized RID or NIC certification (written required)
• Active listing on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry - Dept. of Health)
• Experience working with high school-aged students in an educational environment preferred
• Ability to successfully complete required fingerprinting and drug screening prior to the start date

Core Responsibilities:

• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers through accurate and effective interpreting
• Assist students in full participation in coursework, school activities, and social interactions
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards
• Collaborate with school staff and special education teams to best support students’ learning needs
• Adapt interpretation methods based on student preferences and instructional contexts

This position follows the school calendar with a consistent weekday schedule—35 hours per week from August through the end of May—making it ideal for those seeking a predictable routine. The caseload is focused on high school students, with assignments and specifics to be determined in collaboration with school staff.
