Special Education Teacher - Cicero, Illinois

There's an immediate opportunity for a passionate educator to serve as an Instructional Teacher in a self-contained classroom for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students. This contract role begins August 19 and is ideal for those who excel in Special Education and have a strong grasp of Assistive Technology.

You’ll teach a small group—about six students—many of whom use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices to support their learning and communication. Your day will start at 8:15 am and finish by 3:45 pm, giving you a consistent schedule to plan engaging lessons and foster meaningful connections.

Qualifications:

• Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement required
• Prior experience teaching students with low-incidence disabilities preferred
• Familiarity with AAC devices and a commitment to integrating assistive technology in daily instruction
• Patient, resourceful, and adaptable approach to supporting diverse student needs
• Strong collaboration skills to coordinate with specialists and families

Responsibilities:

• Deliver tailored instruction in a self-contained setting for Kindergarten and 1st-graders
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with differentiated strategies
• Incorporate assistive technology and communication devices into classroom activities
• Regularly assess student growth, adjusting interventions as needed
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment
• Communicate progress and strategies to parents, staff, and support teams
