About This Role
Auto Action Technologies is an emergency vehicle upfitter in Kenilworth, NJ. We outfit police interceptors, fire vehicles, EMS units, transit buses, and government fleet vehicles for agencies across the tri-state area. Our technicians build vehicles that go into active public safety service every day. We train the right people from the ground up and promote from within.
As an Installer, you work directly alongside senior technicians learning the emergency vehicle upfitting trade from the ground up. This is a skilled trade apprenticeship — the skills you build here form the foundation of a long-term career in a specialized field.
Responsibilities
• Assist senior technicians with vehicle prep, teardown, and installation tasks
• Install standard emergency lighting including light bars, grille lights, and rear deck lights under supervision
• Pull wire harnesses, route cables, and secure wiring per build sheets and diagrams
• Remove and reinstall OEM interior trim panels to allow equipment installation
• Drill, mount, and fasten hardware using hand and power tools
• Perform basic quality checks on completed installations covering power, fit, and finish
• Maintain a clean, organized work bay and tool inventory
• Document completed work steps on build sheets accurately and on time
• Follow all shop safety protocols including PPE and vehicle protection standards
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required
• Comfort using hand tools: drills, screwdrivers, crimpers, and wire strippers
• Basic understanding of 12-volt electrical systems is a plus — not required
• Ability to follow written instructions and wiring diagrams with guidance
• Reliable, punctual, and able to take direction in a fast-paced shop environment
• Able to lift 50 pounds; comfortable with prolonged standing and kneeling
• Valid driver's license required
• Background in fire service, EMS, or law enforcement is a strong plus
