Senior Numismatist

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Numismatist to join our team in Dallas, TX. This role is hands-on and fast-paced, involving buying, grading, sorting, and preparing coins for auction and resale across multiple sales channels.

This is an ideal role for someone with strong numismatic knowledge who thrives in a high-volume environment and wants to be directly involved in the acquisition and monetization of inventory.

Key Responsibilities

• Coin Identification & Grading
• • Accurately identify U.S. and world coins by type, date, mint mark, and variety
  • Assess condition and assign approximate grades (raw and slabbed coins)
  • Detect cleaned, altered, or counterfeit coins
• Buying & Sourcing
• • Evaluate incoming collections and wholesale opportunities
  • Assist in pricing and purchasing decisions
  • Work with leadership to maximize margins on acquisitions
• Sorting & Inventory Processing
• • Sort large volumes of coins efficiently by type, denomination, and value
  • Prepare coins for auction, wholesale, or retail channels
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in inventory handling
• Auction Preparation
• • Assist in lotting coins and grouping inventory strategically
  • Provide input on lot composition to maximize hammer prices
  • Collaborate with photography and listing teams
• Market Awareness
• • Stay up to date on current coin market trends, pricing, and demand
  • Identify high-value or overlooked items within bulk inventory

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of U.S. coins (required); world coin knowledge a plus
• Experience with coin grading standards (PCGS, NGC, etc.)
• Ability to quickly evaluate coins in a high-throughput environment
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Comfortable working with high-value inventory
• Prior experience in coin shops, auctions, or dealing strongly preferred
