Asset Manager - Heavy Equipment & Marine Fleet
Job Description
Dredgit is a privately held, family-owned specialty marine and industrial heavy civil construction company. We own our equipment and self-perform our work — dredges and watercraft, heavy machinery, centrifuges, and tooling — on projects for major Gulf Coast industrial clients (Dow, DuPont, P66, CPChem, Kinder Morgan) and as a prime contractor for the US Army Corps of Engineers. We are hiring an experienced Asset Manager to own the readiness of that equipment.
You will office at our Conroe, TX yard (with some work at our Greens Bayou Houston facility), reporting to the VP of Operations and working hand in hand with our General Managers and Superintendents to keep reliable, ready-to-go equipment under every project. Dredgit works across the lower 48 states, so travel is required.
What You'll Do
• Build and run the Preventive Maintenance Program for all company assets — heavy machinery, dredges and watercraft, centrifuges, vehicles, and tools — to maximize uptime and minimize operating cost.
• Oversee in-house and offsite repairs and major refits; review asset histories and make repair-vs-replace-vs-dispose recommendations.
• Run pre-deployment and post-deployment inspections on every asset, and turn field repair lists into work orders completed before the next deployment.
• Maintain a spare parts inventory for each owned asset, working with field staff on usage and replacement.
• Keep all certifications and registrations current and track asset locations across active projects.
• Manage external vendors: mechanical (engine, hydraulics, electrical), fuel and oil supply, trucking, waste oil removal, scrap iron removal, and facility maintenance — including a two-to-three-quote system on major purchases and twice-yearly vendor pricing reviews.
• Supervise and train shop and facility staff; monitor staffing load so maintenance and repairs finish on time.
• Organize emergency dispatch of equipment, materials, and labor to restart a shutdown project.
• Keep the Conroe yard and facilities clean, organized, weather-ready, and laid out for efficient maintenance and equipment movements; oversee building and infrastructure upkeep.
• Support mobilization and demobilization with field and engineering staff; keep Dredgit's cloud-based equipment systems accurate; create purchase requisitions and review POs and invoices.
• Drive safety compliance: proper PPE, equipment training, and certifications (CPR, First Aid, etc.).
• Complete any additional tasks as assigned by the VP of Operations.
What You'll Bring
• 3–5 years of asset management, equipment management, and maintenance operations experience — ideally with a company in the $25–$40MM annual revenue range.
• Thorough knowledge of heavy machinery, gas and diesel. Construction industry background with exposure to marine operations is a strong plus.
• High school diploma required; engineering degree preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office (required), and the ability to quickly master asset management systems.
• Leadership and communication skills to manage shop staff, vendors, and priorities across multiple simultaneous projects — organized, detail-oriented, and deadline- and budget-conscious.
• The ability to see obstacles coming, plan around them, and implement process improvements.
• Veterans: military maintenance leadership (motor pool, engineering department, aviation maintenance) translates directly to this role — we encourage you to apply.
Pay & Benefits
• $85,000–$135,000 depending on experience and education, plus vehicle allowance.
• Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; 401(k); PTO.
• Training and real advancement opportunities — we are a family-owned business that develops people who want to grow with the company.
• Conditions of employment: pre-employment drug test (with ongoing random testing), pre-employment physical, background screen, and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
