The Role
The Master Mechanic is a senior-level, hands-on position responsible for keeping all equipment running at peak efficiency. You will independently diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems — from heavy-duty trucks and trailers to balers, conveyors, and automated control systems. You'll also play a key role in mentoring junior technicians and shaping our preventative maintenance program.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Diagnosis & Repair
▸ Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
▸ Maintain and repair heavy-duty diesel equipment, trucks, and trailers
▸ Service and repair stationary facility equipment including recycling lines, balers, wire tie machines, and related machinery
▸ Inspect and repair pumps, conveyors, and fabrication systems
▸ Work with PLCs and automated control systems to identify and correct faults
▸ Fabricate or modify parts and components as needed to complete repairs
Preventative Maintenance
▸ Execute preventative and corrective maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and prevent equipment failure
▸ Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage
▸ Collaborate with supervisors and team members to prioritize and sequence maintenance tasks efficiently
Team Leadership & Facility Support
▸ Mentor and train Preventative Maintenance Technicians and Mechanics, building team capability
▸ Perform facility site maintenance as needed to ensure operational safety and efficiency
▸ Support and assist with additional maintenance duties as directed, including tasks performed by other maintenance roles
What You Bring
Required Skills & Experience
▸ Proven experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems
▸ Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, including low voltage through 480V
▸ Proficiency with hydraulic systems, pumps, and associated equipment
▸ Skill in fabrication, modification, and repair of parts and machinery components
▸ Experience with heavy-duty diesel equipment, trucks, trailers, and stationary industrial equipment
▸ Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints

Work Environment & Safety
This position operates in an active industrial environment. You will regularly work around moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and residential and commercial waste materials. Noise levels are typically moderate.
BLT provides all required safety equipment, including hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, uniform, safety vest, and safety boots. All PPE provided must be worn at all times. This role places a strong emphasis on lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station provides residential and commercial recycling, solid waste disposal, and hazardous waste management service to the Tri-Cities community. Our facility is open to all members of the public as a one-stop location to recycle unwanted items, disposal services for non-recyclable waste, and for the safe management of common household hazardous waste.
