Position Summary

The Porter/Lot Attendant is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the dealership's vehicles and facilities. This position supports the sales and service departments by preparing vehicles for display and delivery, transporting vehicles for inspections and repairs, maintaining the dealership grounds, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and takes pride in maintaining a professional dealership environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate department or staff member.
  • Assist customers with locating their vehicles after service.
  • Provide shuttle assistance or transport customer vehicles as directed.
  • Maintain a welcoming, clean, and professional dealership environment.

Vehicle Preparation & Detailing

  • Wash, clean, vacuum, and detail new, used, and customer vehicles.
  • Prepare vehicles for delivery by ensuring they are clean, fueled, charged (if applicable), and presentation-ready.
  • Inspect vehicles for cleanliness, damage, tire condition, fluid levels, and overall appearance.
  • Install license plates, dealer decals, window stickers, and other dealership materials as needed.
  • Maintain detailing supplies and equipment.

Vehicle Lot Management

  • Organize and maintain new and used vehicle inventory on the dealership lot.
  • Move vehicles safely throughout the dealership to support sales and service operations.
  • Ensure all vehicles are properly parked, displayed, and inventory is organized.
  • Maintain secure organization of vehicle keys according to dealership procedures.
  • Monitor vehicle inventory and report any damage or maintenance concerns.

Vehicle Transportation & Maintenance Coordination

  • Transport vehicles to and from repair facilities, smog inspection stations, DMV offices, body shops, and other vendor locations.
  • Coordinate and ensure vehicles receive required smog inspections, emissions testing, routine maintenance, oil changes, tire service, and mechanical repairs.
  • Verify that dealership inventory receives scheduled preventative maintenance and manufacturer-required services.
  • Maintain records and communicate the status of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs to management.
  • Pick up and deliver vehicle parts and supplies as needed.

Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the showroom, customer lounge, offices, restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain dealership grounds and sidewalks.
  • Restock restroom and break room supplies.
  • Report facility maintenance issues requiring repair.
  • Assist with seasonal property maintenance and dealership event setup.

General Dealership Support

  • Assist the sales, service, and management teams with daily operational tasks.
  • Perform dealer trades and vehicle transfers.
  • Maintain dealership equipment and report safety concerns.
  • Follow all dealership policies, safety procedures, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to be insured by the dealership.
  • Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles (preferred).
  • Previous automotive, porter, detailing, or lot attendant experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience washing and detailing vehicles.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance schedules and inspections.
  • Familiarity with DMV procedures, smog inspections, and transporting vehicles to outside vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a professional dealership appearance.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and driving dealership vehicles throughout the day. Employees work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on dealership business needs.
