  • Write up repair orders, explain recommended services in plain language, and provide accurate estimates
  • Communicate with customers throughout the repair process (status updates, approvals for additional work, pickup)
  • Handle scheduling and manage the shop's daily workflow/appointments
  • Process payments, invoices, and basic paperwork
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and follow up to ensure satisfaction
  • Order parts and coordinate with suppliers as needed

Hands-On Mechanical Work

  • Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks, including:
    • Oil changes and fluid services
    • Tire rotations, balancing, and basic tire repair
    • Brake inspections and pad/rotor replacement
    • Battery testing and replacement
    • Basic diagnostics (check engine lights, visual inspections)
    • Filter replacements (air, cabin, fuel)
    • Belt and hose inspections/replacement
  • Assist technicians with more complex jobs during busy periods or as needed
  • Perform test drives and quality checks before vehicles are returned to customers
  • Keep the service bay and customer areas clean and organized

Shop Operations

  • Help maintain accurate service records and customer history
  • Track inventory of common parts and shop supplies
  • Support the owner with day-to-day operational tasks as needed
  • Uphold shop safety standards and procedures

Qualifications

Required:

  • 2+ years of experience in automotive service writing, customer service, or a related front-counter role
  • Basic to intermediate mechanical skills (comfortable performing routine maintenance and simple repairs)
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-first attitude
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, small-shop environment
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Basic computer skills (shop management software, email, scheduling tools)
