Litigation Associate
Job Description
Our client is a highly respected boutique law firm in Kansas City, Missouri, known for delivering sophisticated legal counsel and exceptional client service. The firm's diverse practice includes business advice and counseling, civil litigation, white collar defense and investigations, mediation, and dispute resolution. Due to continued growth, the firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its collaborative and high-performing team. This is a direct hire position.
The Associate Attorney will play a key role in handling a broad range of complex legal matters for businesses and individuals. This position offers substantial client interaction, courtroom exposure, and opportunities to work alongside experienced attorneys on sophisticated litigation, investigations, and advisory matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyze constitutional, statutory, regulatory, and case law to assess legal issues and case strategy.
- Represent clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and before government agencies.
- Evaluate case merits and probable outcomes based on legal precedent and factual analysis.
- Advise clients regarding business transactions, legal rights, obligations, risk management, and litigation strategy.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, pleadings, briefs, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
- Gather and analyze evidence through client interviews, witness interviews, document review, and investigations.
- Develop case strategies and persuasive legal arguments for hearings, trials, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Negotiate settlements and resolutions of civil disputes.
- Participate in white collar investigations and internal corporate investigations as needed.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys across practice areas to ensure comprehensive client representation.
- Appear before judges, conduct witness examinations, argue motions, and present cases at trial.
- Supervise and mentor paralegals, legal assistants, and support staff.
- Manage client relationships and maintain high standards of professional service.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license and good standing with the Missouri Bar (Kansas Bar admission or ability to obtain admission is a plus).
- Minimum of 4 years of legal experience, preferably including litigation, investigations, business counseling, or dispute resolution.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
- Experience drafting complex legal documents and managing litigation matters.
- Excellent interpersonal and client relationship management abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
