Underground Utility Locating (UGL) Project Manager
Job Description
Under the guided supervision of the Underground Utility Locating Manager, the Underground Utility Locating Project Manager is responsible for locating and marking the position of underground utilities before excavation begins. Using specialized electronic locating equipment and maps, the technician identifies buried gas, electric, water, sewer, telecommunications, and fiber-optic lines to help prevent damage, protect public safety, and ensure compliance with local and federal regulations. The UGL Project Manager is responsible for the lifecycle of a project from start to finish – this includes writing proposals, setting up the project in Ajera with appropriate phases, coordinating with clients before, during and after the completion of a project, update UGL Project Tracker as needed, ensuring deliverables are provided to the client in the agreed upon timeframe, ensuring invoices are accurate prior to being sent to client, and handling any inquiries on behalf of the project in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Management, including oversight, direction and support of field and office work associated with UGL projects
a. Research, gather and supply essential documents and materials to direct the completion of field and/or office work
b. Verify work performed for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable engineering standards and specifications
c. Stay on course with project schedules and budgets by monitoring completion of assigned field and office tasks
d. Be available to troubleshoot and/or provide guidance when issues arise with assigned work
e. Drive completion of UGL projects within contracted budgets and timeframes; provide regular updates to management and ownership on project budget and/or timeline slippage
f. Effectively manage scope creep through timely communication and negotiation of Extra Work requirement when scope and/or client needs change
g. Maintain project files and include all notes, communications, research and design documents
2. Responsible for operating, checking and performing basic field adjustments on all UGL equipment
- Professionally interact over the phone, via email, and in-person with all Bedrock employees and clients, documenting all project notes in the Ajera system
- Continually upgrade professional skillset through company-provided training and other outside learning opportunities
- Keep equipment calibrated and in good working order
- Maintain assigned vehicle – clean vehicle weekly both inside and out
7. Understand scope of work and make all necessary measurements and observations to meet the scope
8. Document clear and understandable field notes that conveys all necessary field information about a job
9. Basic AutoCAD linework when appropriate for utility maps
- Respond to utility locate requests within required timeframes
- Use electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating equipment, and utility maps to identify underground facilities
- Accurately mark underground utilities using industry-standard color codes and paint or flags
- Read and interpret construction plans, utility maps, and engineering drawings
- Document completed locate tickets using mobile applications or computer systems
- Communicate with contractors, property owners, utility companies, and supervisors regarding locate activities
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on locating equipment and company vehicles
- Follow all company safety procedures, traffic control requirements, and OSHA regulations
- Immediately report damaged equipment, facilities, hazardous conditions, and discrepancies to UGL Manager
- Maintain accurate records of daily work performed and completed locate requests
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform special projects upon request.
2. Monitor phone calls and e-mails, and respond within 24 hours.
3. Perform other duties as assigned.

9. Basic proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Experience: 3-5 year of experience in related field preferred
