Immediate opening for a Gear Grinder Operator in San Diego, CA who possesses:

• 3+ years of experience operating Mills or Lathes in an aerospace/defense manufacturing environment; gear grinding experience is a plus but not required.
• Experience with hand tools (micrometers, height gauges, calipers, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

FULL DESCRIPTION:

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

• Setting up and operating Reishauer or similar gear grinding equipment to produce precision aerospace gears in accordance with engineering drawings, gear specifications, customer requirements, and company quality system requirements.
• Reviewing job travelers, gear drawings, gear data, setup sheets, tooling requirements, and inspection requirements before beginning work.
• Selecting, installing, dressing, and maintaining grinding wheels, workholding, fixtures, and related tooling as required.
• Performing gear grinding operations for external gear teeth and related precision gear features.
• Monitoring tooth geometry, stock removal, surface finish, machine condition, coolant application, wheel condition, and part quality during production.
• Reviewing or supporting the review of gear inspection results including profile, lead, pitch, runout, tooth thickness, and related characteristics as applicable.
• Making machine or process adjustments within assigned authority to maintain conformance to gear requirements.
• Identifying and communicating nonconforming conditions, gear quality concerns, tooling issues, machine concerns, or process improvement opportunities.
• Completing production records, inspection records, and required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

The selected candidate will also possess:

• Experience operating gear grinding equipment (Reishauer preferred) or precision grinding machines in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, gear drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments applicable to grinding or gear manufacturing.
• Aerospace gear manufacturing experience and familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 standards is a plus!
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to follow setup instructions, inspection requirements, and documented manufacturing processes.
• Basic computer proficiency to access work instructions, enter production data, and complete documentation.
• Understanding of gear terminology (pitch, lead, profile, runout, tooth thickness, helix angle, pressure angle, stock allowance) and ability to recognize gear grinding issues (burn, chatter, poor tooth finish, geometry drift, wheel wear).
• Strong communication skills (English reading, writing, and speaking) to collaborate effectively with supervisors, engineering, quality, and production personnel.
• Preferred: Experience with AGMA gear quality requirements, gear inspection reports, and grinding hardened or carburized aerospace gears.

Salary Range: $25 to $35/hour
