Financial Counselor – Regional Oncology Care (Hybrid / Erie, PA Region)
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct-Hire (Permanent placement on company payroll with immediate full benefits; not a temporary job)
Location: Erie, PA 16505
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; No evenings, weekends, or holidays!)
New Hire Starting Base Pay: $18.99 – $21.27 per hour (Starting pay based on experience, with clear advancement pathways as you build specialized expertise.)
Future Earning Potential: After hire, established employees have the opportunity to earn progressive pay increases up to $28.11 per hour over time through performance, tenure, and continuous learning.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Insurance Verification & Prior Authorizations: Secure verification of insurance benefits and obtain initial/subsequent prior authorizations and referrals required by third-party payers prior to treatment.
- Patient Financial Advocacy & Assistance: Evaluate uninsured, underinsured, and high-cost medication patients for co-pay assistance, foundation grants, drug reimbursement programs, Medical Assistance, and charity care resources.
- Patient Counseling & Liability Review: Meet with oncology patients and families to complete financial counseling, review out-of-pocket liabilities using Summary of Liability forms, and establish manageable payment arrangements.
- Billing & Claims Resolution: Partner with the central billing team and walk-in patients to investigate, resolve open claims, and clarify insurance coverage issues.
- Regional Clinical Support: Maintain seamless financial coordination across regional cancer centers, traveling occasionally to supported sites based on operational needs.
What We’re Looking For – Minimum Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of work experience in a medical office, patient access, financial counseling, or healthcare billing environment is required (prior authorization experience required).
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems (EPIC experience strongly preferred), word processing, and medical billing databases.
- Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of medical terminology, third-party payer rules/regulations, prior authorization workflows, credit/collections laws, and HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal communication, high empathy and patient advocacy orientation, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
