Power Transformer LTC Instructor–Technician

Do you know your way around a diverter mechanism and selector switch? Can you run a Hi-Pot or TTR test and teach others why it matters? If you’re equally at home with a torque wrench and a whiteboard, this hybrid role is for you.

Role basics
  • Location: Dallas, TX
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:45 PM
  • Employment Type: Full-Time
What you will do
  • Rebuild and overhaul Load Tap Changers (LTCs): disassembly, inspection, parts replacement, and reassembly.
  • Execute and explain electrical/mechanical tests: Hi-Pot, TTR, Ductor, Megger.
  • Identify and resolve issues across mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and control drawings with precision.
  • Validate controls, alarms, interlocks, CT wiring, and auxiliary circuits before sign-off.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards at every step.
How you will teach
  • Lead classroom instruction and hands-on labs for employees, service techs, and customers.
  • Develop training decks, work instructions, SOPs, and comprehensive technical manuals.
  • Measure learning through demonstrations and written assessments.
  • Serve as the go-to SME for LTC systems and best practices.
How you will improve our operation
  • Write clear, concise technical reports and test documentation.
  • Recommend and implement safety, quality, productivity, and training improvements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales to enhance designs and processes.
Must-haves
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with power transformers and LTCs.
  • Experience in transformer maintenance, assembly, testing, or field service.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability and strong documentation habits.
  • Valid driver's license.
Nice-to-haves
  • Technical degree/certification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Technology.
  • Background in technical training or mentoring technicians.
  • Experience across multiple LTC OEMs.

  • Fluency in reading electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Standing for extended periods; lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hand tools and light machinery.
  • Occasional travel to customer or company sites.
