This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys guiding projects through public review processes, working with community stakeholders, and helping keep development and preservation initiatives organized and on track. The role combines administrative coordination, public interaction, and field-based support in a collaborative government setting.
Responsibilities:
• Manage planning, zoning, and preservation applications from intake through final review, ensuring each step moves forward efficiently.
• Examine submitted materials for completeness and coordinate the timely handling of permits, approvals, and supporting records.
• Oversee grant-funded and departmental projects by tracking milestones, communicating with applicants, and monitoring compliance requirements.
• Develop agendas, reports, meeting materials, minutes, and correspondence for boards, commissions, and public-facing meetings.
• Provide administrative and logistical support during advisory board and commission meetings, including follow-up on action items.
• Perform site visits and on-location assessments related to land use, development, and preservation activities.
• Advise residents, property owners, and contractors on applicable regulations, submission procedures, and project expectations.
• Maintain organized records for contracts, invoices, budgets, project files, and other departmental documentation.
• Assist with reporting, financial tracking, long-range planning activities, and coordination with community partners and stakeholder groups.• At least 5 years of experience in planning, zoning, historic preservation, community development, municipal operations, or a closely related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation, Urban Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, Art History, Architectural History, or a similar discipline is preferred.
• Working knowledge of land use practices, zoning processes, preservation standards, and government procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public and internal teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard business software used for documentation and coordination.
• Ability to build productive relationships with residents, contractors, community organizations, and public-sector stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license required for site visits and field-related responsibilities.
