The HVAC Electrician combines heating, cooling, and power distribution responsibilities, with a strong focus on system placement, electrical wiring, and emergency backup integration. This role installs and connects commercial and residential HVAC units according to blueprints, completes all related electrical hookups, and ensures critical systems remain powered through UPS battery backup solutions. The HVAC Electrician also tests, calibrates, and programs thermostats and automation controls to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient building systems.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install commercial and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units in accordance with blueprints and construction plans.
  • Connect HVAC units to power sources, including running high- and low-voltage wiring and attaching conduit as required.
  • Perform electrical hookups to main breaker panels, ensuring proper load distribution and compliance with electrical standards.
  • Install and service Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery backup systems to keep critical HVAC and control infrastructure operational during power outages.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to plan installations and routing of wiring and conduit.
  • Perform conduit bending and installation to support HVAC and electrical systems in a construction environment.
  • Pull and terminate wires for HVAC systems, controls, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Check electrical circuits and test voltage to verify system performance and safety.
  • Program thermostats and automation controls to meet design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues related to HVAC units, UPS systems, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with HVAC installers and other construction trades to coordinate work and ensure timely project completion.
  • Follow safety protocols and electrical codes while working with voltages ranging from 24 to 480 volts.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 6 years of electrical installation and construction experience.
  • Strong experience with HVAC wiring and electrical hookups for HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in running high- and low-voltage wiring and working safely with 24 to 480 volts.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings for electrical and HVAC installations.
  • Hands-on experience with conduit installation, including conduit bending and routing.
  • Skilled in wire pulling, termination, and circuit verification for building systems.
  • Experience installing and servicing Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
  • Knowledge of main breaker panel connections and power distribution for building systems.
  • Journeyman electrician-level expertise; journeyman license preferred.
  • Ability to test electrical circuits, check voltage, and verify system performance.
  • Competence in programming thermostats and automation controls for HVAC systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyman electrician license preferred.
  • Background in construction environments with exposure to HVAC installations.
  • Familiarity with control systems associated with HVAC and UPS infrastructure.
  • Experience collaborating with HVAC technicians and other trades on installation projects.
  • Strong attention to detail when following blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Commitment to safety practices and adherence to electrical codes and standards.

Why Work Here?

You will step into a role that offers greater specialization and responsibility, focusing on the electrical side of HVAC installations rather than wiring entire buildings. This position provides the opportunity to work closely with modern HVAC units, UPS systems, and control systems, allowing you to deepen your expertise in critical building infrastructure. You will gain valuable experience in a dynamic construction setting, expanding your skills and advancing your career in a high-impact technical role.
