Job Description

This role focuses on high-precision surface preparation of critical components using sandblasting and bead blasting equipment. You will prepare and treat metal and brass parts, apply masking to protect sensitive areas, and ensure surfaces meet strict quality and safety standards for downstream finishing and coating processes. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, attention to detail, and close collaboration with finishing, polishing, and assembly teams.

Responsibilities

  • Operate sandblasting and bead blasting machinery to remove surface imperfections, oxidation, and residues from brass and other metal components.
  • Perform high-precision surface preparation on critical components such as blades, rotors, and casings, ensuring consistent and controlled material removal.
  • Select appropriate blasting media and calibrate pressure settings based on material type, geometry, and required surface finish.
  • Apply complex masking to protect tight-tolerance geometries and machined surfaces from damage during blasting.
  • Prepare furniture and other parts by masking designated areas, setting up work surfaces, and selecting suitable abrasives for each job.
  • Inspect workpieces before blasting to identify defects, contamination, or areas requiring special handling.
  • Inspect parts after blasting to verify quality, consistency, and surface finish, including checking surface roughness profiles to support coating adhesion.
  • Work closely with finishing, polishing, and assembly teams to coordinate workflow and ensure parts are delivered on time and in the correct condition.
  • Maintain blasting equipment by performing routine checks, cleaning, and preventative maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Monitor and replace worn blasting media as needed to maintain consistent blasting performance and surface quality.
  • Safely operate heavy material handling equipment to move and position components for blasting and finishing.
  • Follow aerospace and industrial safety standards, quality control protocols, and workplace procedures at all times.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to all safety protocols to minimize exposure to dust, noise, and other hazards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of media, tools, and protective equipment.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of new finishing techniques to enhance brass and metal surface effects and improve process efficiency.

Essential Skills

  • Previous hands-on experience operating sandblasters or bead blasters.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Ability to select appropriate blasting media and adjust pressure settings to achieve specific surface finishes.
  • Skill in applying masking to protect tight-tolerance geometries and machined surfaces from damage.
  • Experience inspecting parts before and after blasting to ensure quality, consistency, and correct surface preparation.
  • Ability to follow strict aerospace or industrial safety standards and quality control protocols.
  • Capability to safely operate heavy material handling equipment for moving components.
  • Comfort working in a hot environment while wearing a full body protective suit.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean, organized work areas.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with finishing, polishing, and assembly teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Experience working with brass components and decorative or functional surface finishes.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices for industrial equipment.
  • Interest in contributing to the development of new finishing and surface preparation techniques.

Why Work Here?

You will join a highly skilled production environment that values safety, precision, and craftsmanship in every part produced. The role offers the opportunity to work with advanced blasting equipment and complex components while collaborating closely with experienced finishing and assembly professionals. You will gain exposure to refined finishing techniques and continuous improvement initiatives, helping you grow your technical skills and expand your expertise in industrial surface preparation.

Work Environment

The position is based in an industrial manufacturing facility focused on precision surface preparation and finishing. You will work primarily in a hot room designed for blasting operations while wearing a full body protective suit equipped with air conditioning for comfort and safety. The role involves regular use of sandblasting and bead blasting machinery, heavy material handling equipment, and various abrasives.
