Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our operations by developing and implementing safety programs. You will work closely with production teams to advise on safety protocols, conduct hazard analyses, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of safety programs.
  • Advise production on safety protocols and procedures to ensure team and staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform hazard analyses and recommend mitigation procedures to plant operations.
  • Develop and implement department safety work, tracking, and reporting.
  • Conduct routine and follow-up environmental, health, safety, and hazard inspections of the facility.
  • Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire, and smoke incidents.
  • Analyze accident and incident reports for trends and make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions.
  • Support production supervisors with safety-related reports and ensure timely submission.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Ability to work night shift, Monday-Friday 7PM-4AM and the occasional Saturday night with production.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to address safety issues and interact with team members.

Work Environment

This role involves working primarily on the production floor, conducting routine inspections, and interacting with team members. You will be required to work night shifts from 7PM to 4AM, with an hour lunch break, and occasionally on Saturdays. The position requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and responding to incidents involving ergonomics issues and safety hazards. The work environment encourages proactive engagement and presence among the team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Athens, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
