Job Description

The Land Surveying Technician is responsible for assisting the Crew Chief in operating a field survey crew. This role emphasizes the quality of work in terms of accuracy, thoroughness, meeting regulatory requirements, public relations, safety, and maintenance of equipment. The technician must operate and protect equipment, maintain a safe work environment, accurately collect field data, and locate features efficiently. Some overnight travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Crew Chief in operating a field survey crew.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of survey work, meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and protect surveying equipment and vehicles.
  • Accurately and efficiently collect field data and locate features.
  • Operate equipment in varied terrains and weather conditions year-round.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all safety regulations.

Essential Skills

  • Surveying and topography skills.
  • Proficiency with land surveying equipment such as total stations and GPS.
  • Reliability and a strong interest in a career within land surveying or geomatics.
  • Proficiency in Survey CAD, ALTA, PLS, land development, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • One to two years of progressive experience in land survey field operations.
  • Self-motivation and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Problem-solving skills and motivation to learn and develop your career path.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Good technical skills.
  • Process-oriented behavioral traits such as being steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, and structured.
  • EFB data collection experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared check, and negative drug test result.
  • Sound functional and technical skills in the role.

The position requires extensive walking outside year-round through various terrains and in extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.
