The Boiler Maintenance Technician operates and maintains stationary equipment, including steam boilers, air compressors, generators, wastewater systems, cooling towers, fire systems, and refrigeration equipment. This role ensures all systems run at peak performance through careful monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair, and supports general facilities maintenance when not actively overseeing equipment operations.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain stationary equipment such as steam boilers, air compressors, generators, wastewater systems, cooling towers, fire systems, and refrigeration equipment.
- Monitor operating equipment and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance and system reliability.
- Diagnose mechanical problems, determine appropriate corrective actions, and reference blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as needed.
- Perform and assist with basic maintenance repairs on plant equipment and facility systems.
- Keep the plant online by making timely manual adjustments to equipment and systems.
- Monitor boiler water levels, boiler chemical levels, wastewater chemical levels, and fuel levels to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Perform proper and safe startup of boilers, refrigeration systems, and wastewater systems in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct safety tests on boiler and refrigeration systems and accurately record test results.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks to minimize equipment downtime and extend equipment life.
- Support general facilities maintenance activities when not actively monitoring or adjusting systems.
Essential Skills
- Grade 1 Stationary Engineer license.
- Hands-on experience with boiler maintenance, steam boilers, and steam systems.
- Experience in facility maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.
- Experience as a maintenance technician with strong preventive maintenance and repair skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain stationary equipment, including boilers, compressors, generators, wastewater systems, cooling towers, fire systems, and refrigeration equipment.
- Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical issues using blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
- Strong understanding of boiler water, boiler chemicals, wastewater chemicals, and fuel level monitoring.
- Ability to perform safe startup and shutdown procedures for boilers, refrigeration systems, and wastewater systems.
- Experience performing safety testing on boiler and refrigeration systems and documenting results.
- Capability to work in environments such as commercial properties, hospitals, or manufacturing plants.

- Experience working in commercial property settings, hospitals, or manufacturing plants.
- Demonstrated ability to support general facilities maintenance in addition to core boiler and equipment responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on maintaining continuous plant operations.
- Comfort working with automation systems to ensure peak performance of mechanical and utility systems.
- Ability to collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to address equipment issues efficiently.

Work Environment
This role operates in an industrial or plant environment with stationary equipment such as steam boilers, air compressors, generators, wastewater systems, cooling towers, fire systems, and refrigeration equipment. You will work with automation systems and mechanical tools to monitor, adjust, and repair equipment. The position follows a day shift schedule with flexible 10-hour days, Monday through Friday, typically starting at 5:30 a.m. or 6:30 a.m. The work involves being on your feet, moving between equipment areas, and working around active mechanical systems in a facilities and plant setting.
