Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing conveyor systems and related industrial automation equipment in a dynamic material-handling environment. The conveyor mechanic ensures reliable operation of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems that support high-volume packaging and industrial processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on conveyor systems and associated industrial equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on conveyors, including motors, drives, sensors, relays, and control components.
- Diagnose and repair conveyor mechanical components such as rollers, belts, bearings, and structural elements to ensure smooth and safe operation.
- Conduct electrical troubleshooting on three-phase power systems, relays, and control circuits using schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical conduit and industrial wiring for conveyor and material-handling equipment.
- Use PLC troubleshooting techniques and ladder logic to identify control system faults and support programming adjustments as needed.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints to plan and execute maintenance and repair tasks accurately.
- Perform corrective repairs on industrial packaging and material-handling equipment to restore full functionality.
- Carry out scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance procedures on conveyors and related machinery, documenting work performed.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians, controls technicians, and engineering support to resolve complex equipment issues.
- Follow safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices when working on mechanical and electrical systems to maintain a safe work environment.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly, assess root causes, and implement effective solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and system performance.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience as a conveyor mechanic in an industrial or material-handling environment.
- Experienced in conveyor maintenance and repair, including mechanical and electrical components.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting conveyor systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues.
- Knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and ladder logic for identifying and resolving control system faults.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with three-phase electrical systems and industrial electrical troubleshooting.
- Skills in electrical maintenance, including working with relays, conduit, and industrial wiring.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in industrial repair, packaging equipment, and material-handling systems.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance practices for industrial machinery and conveyor equipment.
- Capability to work safely around mechanical parts, electrical systems, and elevated work areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experienced as a maintenance technician in industrial or automated material-handling facilities.
- Experience with pneumatics and associated control systems used in conveyor and packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial automation environments and high-growth material-handling technology.
- Comfort working with oils, fumes, dust, and high-heat environments typical of industrial facilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a skilled technical team and communicate clearly about equipment status and repair needs.
- Interest in developing skills toward controls technician, engineering support, or site leadership roles.

Work Environment
This role is based in an industrial facility that includes both indoor and outdoor working conditions. You will work around mechanical parts, electrical systems, conveyors, oils, fumes, dust, high heat, and elevated work areas. The position involves frequent standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting at medium to heavy work levels. The scheduled shift for this role is Wednesday through Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., supporting high-volume operations in a fast-paced automation environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phillipsburg, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
