The Maintenance Mechanic maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of manufacturing equipment, including heavy hydraulic presses, CNC machines, furnaces, ovens, and facility systems. This role combines mechanical and electrical maintenance, preventive maintenance, and light machining and fabrication work to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair heavy hydraulic presses, CNC machines, furnaces, ovens, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on pumps, motors, gear boxes, sprockets, chains, and pulleys to ensure reliable operation.
  • Complete electrical repairs and changeouts on sensors, switches, and relays, using blueprints and schematics when available.
  • Follow and execute a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment issues, often without manuals or schematics, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Carry out facility maintenance tasks, including lighting system repairs, bathroom repairs, light plumbing work, and trash handling.
  • Perform light manual lathe and milling operations to fabricate or modify parts as needed for repairs.
  • Use mechanical troubleshooting techniques to diagnose issues in hydraulics and other mechanical systems.
  • Work independently for most of the day, organizing tasks and prioritizing repairs to support continuous production.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to communicate equipment status and coordinate maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on machinery maintenance experience covering both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with pumps, motors, gear boxes, sprockets, chains, pulleys, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to perform electrical repairs on switches, sensors, and relays, including changeouts and adjustments.
  • Proficiency in reading and utilizing blueprints and schematics when available.
  • Full ability to complete root cause analysis on equipment failures, often without manuals or detailed schematics.
  • Experience following and executing preventative maintenance schedules in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to work independently for extended periods, managing time and tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working with CNC machines, hydraulic equipment, and other manufacturing machinery.
  • Basic knowledge of light plumbing and facility maintenance tasks such as lighting and bathroom repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Manual machining experience, including operation of manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Welding experience for fabrication, repair, or modification of mechanical components.
  • Experience in a clean, modern manufacturing facility environment.
  • Familiarity with seals manufacturing or similar precision manufacturing processes is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail in both mechanical and electrical work.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean manufacturing facility that produces seals, with a comfortable climate-controlled setting—heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer. You will typically work independently for most of the day, requiring self-direction and the ability to manage tasks without constant oversight. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with very minimal overtime. The environment includes heavy hydraulic presses, CNC machines, furnaces, ovens, and manual machining equipment such as lathes and mills, along with standard maintenance tools and equipment used for mechanical, electrical, and facility repairs.

This is a Contract position based out of Elgin, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
