Job Description

This role focuses on operating Citizen and Star Swiss CNC machines in a high-production medical device manufacturing environment. You will perform light setups, load and edit programs, perform tool changes, and troubleshoot issues while maintaining strict quality standards. You will collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to improve final products and tooling, and you will use shop math and precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Citizen and Star Swiss CNC machines safely and efficiently in a high-production environment.
  • Perform light setups, including preparing tools, fixtures, and materials for production runs.
  • Load CNC programs, make edits in Gibbscam software on Fanuc controls, and verify program accuracy before and during production.
  • Perform tool changes and adjustments as needed to maintain part quality and machine performance.
  • Run high-volume production jobs, typically ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 parts per order.
  • Interpret and work from various machining prints and engineering drawings to produce parts to specification.
  • Collaborate with engineering, as well as internal and external designers, to improve final products and tooling designs.
  • Understand engineering objectives and design intent and provide constructive feedback on manufacturability and process improvements.
  • Maintain quality standards by performing in-process inspections of parts using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Monitor machining processes and make necessary adjustments to ensure consistent quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Document and communicate any issues, deviations, or improvement ideas related to processes, tooling, or equipment.
  • Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a safe and organized work environment on the shop floor.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience operating Swiss-style CNC machines, preferably Citizen or Star models.
  • Practical knowledge of Swiss machining, including lathe and Swiss operation processes.
  • Ability to make program edits using Gibbscam software on Fanuc controls.
  • Proficiency with CNC machining concepts, including tool offsets, feeds, speeds, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong mathematics skills with a focus on shop math for dimensions, tolerances, and machining calculations.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges for in-process inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret machining prints and engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of numerical control and CNC programming basics.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Education from a trade school or technical program in machining, CNC, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a high-volume production setting with runs of 1,500 to 2,000 parts.
  • Familiarity with collaborating with engineering and design teams to improve products and tooling.
  • Comfort working with both internal and external designers on manufacturability and process improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues quickly.
  • Good communication skills to provide clear feedback on design intent, process changes, and quality concerns.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
