Job Description

The CMM Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that precision machined parts meet all dimensional and quality requirements. This position focuses on quality control, GD&T interpretation, and CMM operation and programming to perform first article and in-process inspections within a dedicated quality control environment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications to determine required materials, surface finishes, tolerances, and dimensions.
  • Inspect products for dimensional and attribute conformance, including work-in-progress and first article inspections.
  • Follow established inspection procedures to verify product conformance using appropriate measuring and testing equipment, with a primary focus on CMM inspection.
  • Operate and program CMM equipment (including Zeiss systems) to perform accurate and repeatable measurements on machined parts.
  • Report all inspection findings, discrepancies, and quality concerns to the Quality Supervisor in a timely and clear manner.
  • Perform dimensional calculations and apply GD&T principles as needed during routine inspection activities.
  • Examine materials and products for surface defects such as cracks, pits, incomplete welds, and other nonconformities.
  • Compare products against parts lists, drawings, and sample models to verify completion and adherence to specified dimensions.
  • Reject nonconforming or defective parts and clearly mark the type of defect on the part, container, or inspection tag as required.
  • Follow documented procedures for the disposition of non-conforming products to ensure proper handling and traceability.
  • Record discrepancies on inspection reports and submit detailed discrepancy documentation to the Quality Supervisor for further action.
  • Perform final inspection procedures to confirm that finished products meet all quality and dimensional requirements before release.
  • Assist manufacturing personnel with in-process inspections and collaborate on problem-solving for dimensional and quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on inspection results and recurring quality trends.
  • Perform other related duties, tasks, and projects as assigned to support the overall quality control function.

Essential Skills

  • in quality inspection within a manufacturing or machining environment.
  • Hands-on experience in quality control (QC) practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), specifically Zeiss CMM equipment.
  • Ability to perform first article inspections on precision machined parts.
  • Competence in performing dimensional calculations and using inspection data to verify product conformance.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in recording inspection results and discrepancies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to dimensional and quality issues.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with quality and manufacturing teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a dedicated quality control department or inspection room.
  • Familiarity with a variety of inspection tools and measuring equipment in addition to CMM (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Understanding of non-conforming product disposition processes and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement and quality initiatives through detailed inspection feedback.
  • Comfort working with machined components and precision manufacturing processes.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand new manufacturing facility, working within a dedicated quality control department that operates in its own enclosed room. The CMM Inspector primarily performs first article inspections on machined parts using inspection equipment, with a strong emphasis on CMM technology, including Zeiss systems. The environment is focused on precision, accuracy, and adherence to established quality procedures, supporting close collaboration with manufacturing while maintaining a structured and professional inspection setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of TUALATIN, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
