Job Description

This role focuses on assembling and installing components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames used for specialized vehicles such as aircraft refueling and vacuum trucks. You will work hands-on with mechanical systems, using a variety of tools and equipment to ensure each vehicle is assembled accurately, safely, and to high quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install mechanical components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames for specialized vehicles, including aircraft refueling and vacuum trucks.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and upfitting work, ensuring all parts are installed correctly, securely, and in alignment with specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine assembly requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, including torque wrenches and impact tools, to complete mechanical assembly tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect assembled components and systems to verify proper installation and functionality, making adjustments as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of assemblers in designated bay areas to meet production goals and timelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety procedures and proper tool handling practices.
  • Lift, move, and position components and equipment weighing up to 50–100 lbs as part of daily assembly tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Follow all company policies, safety guidelines, and quality standards throughout the assembly process.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of mechanical and heavy equipment experience, including hands-on mechanical assembly work.
  • using mechanical tools in a shop, body shop, farm equipment, or similar environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Proficiency with shop tools and equipment such as torque wrenches and impact tools.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly, installing components, and upfitting heavy-duty equipment.
  • Capability to bend, squat, and lift 50–100 lbs regularly as part of the job.
  • Ability to provide references who can speak specifically to mechanical and assembly experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ownership of a personal set of mechanical tools suitable for heavy equipment assembly work.
  • Comfort working both independently and as part of a small team of assemblers.
  • Reliable work ethic with the flexibility to support occasional overtime, including some Saturdays.
  • Basic understanding of shop safety practices and proper use of mechanical tools.

Work Environment

The role is based in a garage-style shop environment where you may be exposed to the elements, including varying temperatures and weather conditions. You will work as part of a team of approximately 6–10 assemblers, typically with 1–2 assemblers assigned per bay area. The standard shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of starting at 5:00 a.m. on particularly hot days. Optional overtime is available on some Saturdays. The position requires frequent bending, squatting, and lifting of 50–100 lbs as part of daily tasks. The dress code includes jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toed boots to support safety and comfort in the shop environment, and you will regularly use mechanical shop tools such as torque wrenches, impact tools, and other assembly equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
