Human Resources (HR) Business Partner
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to come onsite to provide hands-on HR support for a workforce of union and non-union employees in California. This 3-6 months long-term contract position is ideal for someone who combines strong knowledge of California employment practices with a practical, service-focused approach to daily HR operations. The role will partner closely with managers and employees to strengthen compliance, improve HR processes, and deliver dependable support across the employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver day-to-day HR operational support for a mixed workforce of union and non-union employees, serving as a reliable resource for managers and staff.
• Review and organize personnel records, including I-9 documentation, applications, onboarding files, and related employee documents to ensure completeness and compliance.
• Monitor adherence to California employment regulations and internal HR standards, helping identify and address documentation or process gaps.
• Update employee handbooks, policy materials, and other HR documentation to keep information accurate, current, and accessible.
• Support onboarding and separation activities, respond to employee questions, and handle routine HR administrative tasks with accuracy and discretion.
• Assist with payroll coordination, timekeeping review, and other compliance-related HR processes tied to employee records and workforce administration.
• Contribute to employee relations matters by preparing performance documentation, supporting corrective action steps, and facilitating clear communication with supervisors.
• Coordinate recruitment activities such as screening candidates, arranging interviews, assisting with offer preparation, and supporting new employee entry into the organization.
• Maintain confidential employee data within HR files and systems while helping create more consistent administrative processes and infrastructure.
• Provide support with the adoption or integration of HR software tools when needed, while helping improve operational efficiency.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in human resources, including broad exposure to HR administration and employee support.• Demonstrated knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance requirements, including I-9 practices and personnel file management.
• Experience handling employee relations issues, performance documentation, and workplace investigations or related matters.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage detailed records and multiple priorities effectively.
• Background supporting onboarding, offboarding, policy administration, and general HR operations in a hands-on environment.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative, humble, and service-oriented approach with leaders and employees.
• Preferred experience in hospitality, country club, hotel, restaurant, or another customer-focused service environment.
• Comfortable contributing at both the tactical and administrative level, with a willingness to handle day-to-day detail work directly.
