Job Title: Dryer Operator

Job Description

The Dryer Operator works in the Drying Department and is responsible for safely drying and packaging bulk ferrous sulfate according to established Work Instructions and SOPs. This role focuses on meeting daily production targets, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.

Shift Hours:

1st shift: 6:00am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday

2nd shift: 2:00pm - 10:30pm Monday through Friday

**TRAINING WILL BE ON ON 1st SHIFT FOR UP TO 6 WEEKS, AFTER TRAINING YOU WILL MOVE TO 2nd SHIFT.**

Pay:

$21 to $23 an hour based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Dry and package bulk ferrous sulfate in accordance with Work Instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Meet daily production levels and output requirements as determined by leadership.
  • Follow all safety requirements and maintain a clean, organized production area through proper housekeeping practices.
  • Maintain proper stock rotation of finished goods approved moist ferrous sulfate to ensure product quality and freshness.
  • Move materials using a skid steer and sit-down forklift as part of the production process.
  • Complete Work Orders and Production Records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Sample product for quality control testing and follow QC procedures.
  • Perform shift change cleaning requirements to keep equipment and work areas in good condition.
  • Load bulk material into the dryer machine using a forklift.
  • Operate the dryer machine to process material through the drying cycle.
  • Use a screening machine to sift and separate product to required specifications.
  • Move dried material to designated storage bins for further handling or packaging.
  • Make basic machine adjustments during operation to maintain consistent product quality and throughput.
  • Apply good manufacturing practices (GMP and cGMP) throughout all production activities.

Essential Skills

  • Proven sit-down forklift experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience operating machinery and making routine adjustments during operation.
  • Experience working with documentation, such as Work Orders and Production Records, in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to consistently lift up to 55 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Experience in production or manufacturing operations.
  • Machine operation skills, including safe startup, monitoring, and shutdown procedures.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with dust and industrial materials.
  • Understanding and application of GMP and cGMP practices in a production setting.
  • Attention to detail to follow SOPs, record data accurately, and support quality control testing.
  • Ability to work safely around forklifts, skid steers, and other production equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in the food and beverage industry is a plus.
  • Machine troubleshooting experience, including identifying and resolving minor equipment issues, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with food manufacturing processes is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with iron salts or similar materials in a production environment.

Work Environment

This role is based on a manufacturing shop floor that is dusty due to iron salt materials, with a noticeable metallic smell similar to pennies and a faint taste that may be present in the air. The material used is not hazardous to health, but comfort measures such as N95 masks or scarves can be worn throughout the shift based on personal preference. The environment involves working around industrial equipment such as dryer machines, screening machines, forklifts, and skid steers. The work is physically demanding, requiring regular lifting and movement of materials. Uniforms are provided for full-time employees, and steel toe footwear is expected, supported by a reimbursement program. The setting is a hands-on, production-focused environment where adherence to safety, housekeeping, and GMP/cGMP standards is essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
