The CNC Lathe Operator plays a key role in operating and maintaining CNC lathes in both a climate-controlled shop and an outdoor pipe yard environment. This position involves hands-on work with CNC machinery, overhead cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, band saws, hand tools, and power tools, while ensuring safe and efficient production. The operator independently or collaboratively performs machine edits using G-code, sets parameters on CNC equipment, and supports various tasks that keep operations running smoothly and accurately.

Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC lathes safely and efficiently in a controlled shop environment and outdoor pipe yard.
  • Perform machine edits and program adjustments using G-code to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Enter and adjust machine parameters using computer interfaces and CNC controls.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints to set up and run jobs accurately.
  • Use overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, and telehandlers to move materials and components as required.
  • Operate band saws, hand tools, and power tools to support machining and material preparation activities.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks on CNC lathes in accordance with training and certifications.
  • Follow all safety procedures and successfully complete required safety and CNC lathe training courses.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned jobs on schedule and to quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in both the shop and outdoor yard.
  • Monitor equipment during operation and report any issues or irregularities promptly.
  • Adapt to working around moving equipment and in areas with occasional high noise, dust, and fumes.
Essential Skills
  • G-code experience with the ability to edit CNC programs directly on the machine.
  • Strong CNC machine operation experience, specifically with CNC lathes.
  • Computer skills sufficient to enter and adjust machine parameters and work with CNC controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to guide machining operations.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and jib cranes for material handling.
  • Proficiency in using band saws, hand tools, and power tools in a shop environment.
  • Forklift operation experience for moving materials safely.
  • Solid math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and verify part dimensions.
  • Ability to pass safety and CNC lathe training courses and basic maintenance certifications.
  • Approximately 2 years of related CNC or machining experience (preferred).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in both indoor shop and outdoor yard environments.
  • Comfort working around moving equipment and heavy machinery.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts and adapt to shift schedules as required.
  • Capability to perform basic equipment maintenance after completing required certifications.

Work Environment

The role is based in an enclosed, climate-controlled shop and an outdoor storage yard, providing a mix of indoor and outdoor working conditions. You may encounter occasional high noise levels, dust, and fumes such as fuel or exhaust, and you will sometimes work outside in inclement weather. The position requires working around moving equipment, including CNC lathes, overhead cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, band saws, and other shop tools. The standard schedule includes a 2nd shift from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with initial training on 1st shift for 2–3 weeks from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Justin, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
