This role focuses on programming coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and CNC equipment to support aviation and aerospace manufacturing. The CMM Programmer interprets blueprints and engineering drawings, develops geometric layouts, and uses PC-DMIS and CAD/CAM software to ensure machined parts meet precise quality, dimensional, and efficiency standards.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze job orders, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and other design data to determine machining and measurement requirements.
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to create accurate geometric layouts from graphic displays.
  • Develop and program CMM measurement routines and CNC machining programs using PC-DMIS and related software tools.
  • Accurately calculate necessary dimensions, select appropriate cutting tools, and determine optimal machine speeds and feed rates.
  • Establish reference points for machine cutting paths and define the sequence of machine operations to achieve required tolerances and finishes.
  • Recommend improvements or optimizations to machining and measurement processes that enhance quality and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with machine operators and other production personnel to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve programming and process issues.
  • Ensure programs support the manufacture of high-quality machined parts while minimizing scrap and maximizing machine efficiency.
  • Comply with established business processes, documentation standards, and work procedures related to programming and quality control.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, proactively identify potential job hazards, and work with leadership to reduce risks and promote a safe work environment.
  • Maintain regular on-site attendance to support production needs, participate in problem-solving, and respond promptly to programming changes or issues.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of CNC machine programming experience, with a broad knowledge of machining techniques and CNC machine tool operating procedures.
  • Proven ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with PC-DMIS for CMM programming and measurement routines.
  • Proficiency with programming and modeling software such as Catia and SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of geometric layouts and dimensioning for precision machining and inspection.
  • Ability to determine and calculate dimensions, cutting tool selections, machine speeds, and feed rates for various materials and operations.
  • Experience working in aviation and aerospace manufacturing environments or with aviation/aerospace components.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in programming and documentation.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with machine operators, engineers, and other team members.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and quality standards in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Vocational training in drafting, design, CNC machining programming, or similar engineering technical training is preferred.
  • Background or familiarity with aviation and aerospace industry requirements and standards.
  • Experience as an aviation machinist or in aerospace machining is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Mastercam or other CNC programming tools is an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to recommend process improvements.
  • Comfort working with engineering drawings, PCMs, and other technical documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple programming tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Environment

This position operates in a day-shift manufacturing environment, typically Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime available as required to support production demands. The role involves working in a machining and inspection facility where CNC machines, CMM equipment, and CAD/CAM software such as Catia, SolidWorks, Mastercam, and PC-DMIS are used daily. The work is hands-on and detail-oriented, requiring time on the shop floor collaborating with machine operators and technical staff. Safety standards are strictly enforced, and employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around industrial machinery and equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
