Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Metal Building Project

Job Description

This role oversees the full lifecycle of an 8–9 month commercial construction project at a marina in Kent Island, MD, involving the ground-up construction of a pre-fabricated metal storage building with attached office space. The superintendent leads day-to-day field operations, coordinates subcontractors, and ensures the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. This position offers the opportunity to join a small, growing contractor with a family-oriented culture and strong pipeline of upcoming work, with potential for long-term engagement based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day field operations for the construction of a pre-fabricated metal storage building and attached office space.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors on site to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Plan, organize, and sequence construction activities for base-build, metal building, site work, and interior scopes.
  • Read and interpret construction blueprints and drawings to guide field execution.
  • Handle all field contract documents, including plans, specifications, and related project documentation.
  • Lead and participate in regular progress meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit daily progress reports that document activities, manpower, safety issues, and schedule impacts.
  • Monitor jobsite safety and promote a safe working environment in accordance with company and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project team members to support permitting activities and compliance with local regulations.
  • Use project management tools, including Procore, to track documentation, reports, and project communication.
  • Identify and communicate potential issues affecting schedule, budget, or quality, and assist in developing solutions.
  • Maintain a professional presence on site and serve as the primary field point of contact for the project.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a superintendent or construction supervisor on commercial construction projects.
  • Strong experience in pre-fabricated metal building construction and base-build projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Hands-on experience in subcontractor management on active construction sites.
  • Demonstrated capability in construction scheduling and coordinating multiple trades.
  • Experience managing project budgets and understanding cost impacts of field decisions.
  • Proficiency in preparing daily progress reports and documenting field activities.
  • Working knowledge of permitting processes and field-related permit compliance.
  • Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to direct field teams and subcontractors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe jobsite and enforcing safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with metal building systems and interior build-out projects.
  • experience in commercial construction management or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with site work and base-build construction processes at marina or waterfront locations.
  • Ability to lead progress meetings and clearly present project status to stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing field documents, reports, and schedules.
  • Desire to grow with a small contractor and take on increasing responsibility over time.

Work Environment

The superintendent works full-time on site at a marina-based project in Kent Island, MD, managing construction activities directly in the field. Work is primarily conducted from a site trailer or an on-site office within the building, with frequent movement around the jobsite to oversee base-build, metal building, site, and interior work. The role operates within a small team structure, typically with one superintendent working closely with one project counterpart, fostering a collaborative and family-style environment. The contractor maintains a strong pipeline of upcoming work, offering stability and long-term potential for high performers. The position involves a mix of office-based tasks such as reporting and documentation, and field-based supervision in an active construction setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $88.00 - $96.00/hr.
