Job Title: Restoration Technician

Job Description

The Restoration Technician works within the mitigation and contents department, assisting a lead technician on commercial and residential restoration projects. This role focuses on demolition, cleaning, and restoration of properties and contents damaged by water, fire, and smoke. The technician supports emergency response efforts, performs general labor, and helps ensure that all work meets quality, safety, and documentation standards while providing professional customer service on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead technician in responding to and supporting emergency loss situations for water, fire, and contents-damaged properties.
  • Perform emergency water extraction and drying services under the direction of the lead technician.
  • Carry out demolition and cleaning tasks, including removal of damaged flooring, drywall, cabinets, furniture, and other building materials.
  • Set up, monitor, and take down drying equipment, ensuring proper use of moisture detection tools to track temperatures, relative humidity, and specific humidity.
  • Inspect properties for visible damage and assist in completing specific drying and restoration processes for water, fire, and contents-related losses.
  • Extract water from flooded areas and safely dispose of debris and damaged materials as directed.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours emergency response needs.
  • Follow directions from the lead technician and restoration team to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Travel to a variety of properties to support inspection, documentation, reporting, and estimating of damage caused by water or fire.
  • Document site conditions and findings and report them back accurately to the lead technician.
  • Clean damaged property and personal items, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and packing of contents into boxes.
  • Move and carry boxes, equipment, and furniture, including up and down stairs and to and from company vehicles or trucks.
  • Support the restoration division with cleaning and restoring property, structures, and contents affected by water, fire, and smoke.
  • Provide professional customer service on-site, answering basic questions and maintaining a positive, helpful attitude.
  • Perform content cleaning labor, including logging, labeling, and cleaning client contents according to company procedures.
  • Conduct fire cleaning and post-construction cleaning as part of restoration projects.
  • Assist with loading company vehicles with all necessary equipment, tools, and products prior to each job and unloading upon return.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate job records, including documentation of work performed and contents handled.
  • Use hand tools and basic construction tools safely for demolition, removal, and minor construction-related tasks.
  • Support general site cleanup to leave job sites orderly and safe at the end of each workday.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of construction experience, including exposure to demolition, general labor, or related work.
  • At least 6 months of customer service experience or experience in a similar client-facing role.
  • Willingness and availability to work overtime as needed based on project and emergency demands.
  • Ability and commitment to participate in an on-call rotation, including one weeknight per week and one weekend (Friday–Sunday night) every fourth weekend.
  • Strong initiative and a self-starter, go-getter mentality with the ability to work proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow directions from a lead technician and adhere to company procedures and safety standards.
  • Comfort performing physical labor, including lifting, carrying, and moving boxes, equipment, and furniture, sometimes up and down stairs.
  • Basic proficiency with hand tools and comfort working in construction or restoration environments.
  • Attention to detail for documenting damage, logging contents, and maintaining accurate job records.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills when interacting with property owners and clients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with technology, such as mobile devices, apps, or software used for documentation and reporting, is a plus.
  • A clean driving record is preferred and may support future opportunities to drive company vehicles.
  • Experience in general labor, warehouse work, lumber or wood work, or construction services is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with inspection and document control processes is an asset.
  • Interest in growing into a lead technician role within 6–12 months based on performance and initiative.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role that primarily operates on customer job sites, with reporting each morning to a central facility before traveling in a company vehicle to the work location. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30/4:00 p.m., with overtime as required by project needs. The position includes an on-call rotation of one consistent weeknight each week and one weekend (Friday–Sunday night) every fourth weekend, with added incentives for on-call work. Technicians usually work closely with one lead technician, and larger projects may involve working as part of a small team. The environment involves active, hands-on work in properties affected by water, fire, and smoke, including demolition, cleaning, and restoration tasks. You will use hand tools, drying equipment, moisture detection devices, and standard restoration and cleaning equipment. The role requires frequent standing, lifting, carrying, and moving materials and contents, sometimes in tight spaces or up and down stairs. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plymouth, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
