This role serves as a key point of contact within pharmacy operations, handling inbound and outbound calls related to prescription refills, delivery scheduling, payment coordination, and general non-clinical inquiries. You provide a high level of customer service to patients, clinicians, and clients, ensuring accurate information is captured in the system and that pharmacy workflows proceed smoothly. The position requires a well‑spoken, enthusiastic, and organized professional who can manage calls efficiently, document interactions clearly, and collaborate with clinical staff to support patient safety and satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary resource for inbound telephone calls to minimize workflow interruptions caused by non-clinical customer inquiries, such as general prescription status and financial information.
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls to schedule medication deliveries and process payments, ensuring accurate information is recorded in patient profiles so distribution can send packages in a timely manner.
  • Respond directly to customer inquiries when appropriate and route calls to the appropriate staff to ensure prompt resolution and high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Update concise and accurate progress notes in the management information system so other team members can quickly assess the status of referrals and ongoing requests.
  • Use the management information system to provide customer service, including answering questions about refill needs, providing status updates on pending or shipped prescriptions, verifying insurance information, and supplying copies of invoices upon request.
  • Answer patient questions and concerns during refill scheduling and transfer calls to the clinical team (pharmacists and nurses) when clinical input is needed.
  • Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to clinicians in a timely manner to support patient safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform data entry with strong attention to detail to maintain accurate patient, prescription, and insurance records.
  • Utilize Microsoft applications and call center tools to manage call queues, document interactions, and support daily workflow.
  • Demonstrate a professional telephone manner and show empathy when speaking with patients, addressing their concerns respectfully and clearly.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy operations, insurance, and other support teams as needed to resolve issues related to claims, prior authorizations, and prescription processing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may vary slightly depending on specific team or program requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of North Carolina.
  • Experience in customer service, preferably in a healthcare, pharmacy, call center, or retail environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations or pharmacy workflows, with the ability to support prescription refill and delivery processes.
  • Familiarity with management information systems used to document calls, track referrals, and manage prescription status.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel, to support daily administrative and documentation tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly to patients and clinicians.
  • Professional telephone manner and strong interpersonal skills for handling high volumes of inbound and outbound calls.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy and patience when talking to patients about their medications, concerns, and financial questions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, documentation, and insurance verification.
  • Ability to work effectively in a call center environment, managing time and priorities across multiple tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Pharmacy technician certification, in addition to required registration in North Carolina.
  • Experience in retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or pharmacy operations.
  • Prior authorization experience and familiarity with medical or pharmacy claims processes.
  • Customer service experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic understanding of clinical workflows.
  • Medical claims experience, including working with insurance verification and billing, is a plus.
  • Insurance experience, such as verifying coverage and explaining benefits, is preferred.
  • Data entry experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to adapt to program-specific requirements and workflow variations.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment that combines onsite and remote work.
Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Cary, NC, USA. Training is conducted fully onsite, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. After training is completed, the permanent schedule runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with approximately two days per week in the office and three days remote. You work in a call center–oriented pharmacy operations environment that relies on management information systems, Microsoft applications, and standard telephony tools to manage inbound and outbound calls. The setting is professional and fast-paced, requiring consistent attention to detail, clear documentation, and collaboration with pharmacy and clinical staff. The hybrid structure offers a blend of in-person teamwork and remote work flexibility while maintaining a strong focus on patient service and operational efficiency.

This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
