Position Summary
McDaniel Metals is seeking a Materials Management & Inventory Control Manager to lead inventory accuracy, material readiness, warehouse organization, and inventory execution across three manufacturing facilities. This role owns inventory integrity from receipt of raw materials through work-in-process and finished goods storage, with responsibility for improving inventory confidence, location accuracy, and material availability through disciplined processes and effective use of Sage 300 and AutoSimply.
This position serves as the operational bridge between Planning, Purchasing, Production, and Shipping. Planning communicates upcoming production demand, Purchasing procures required materials, and Production completes the movement from goods issue to the assembly line. This role ensures components are accurate, available, staged, and ready for goods issue to support production execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain ownership of inventory accuracy across raw materials, WIP, purchased components, and finished goods.
- Lead receiving, inventory control, warehouse, cycle counting, and material handling activities across three facilities.
- Ensure materials are accurately received, stored, tracked, labeled, and maintained within designated warehouse locations and bin systems.
- Partner with Planning to review upcoming production requirements and confirm material readiness for scheduled jobs.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to identify material shortages, supply risks, and escalation needs.
- Ensure components are available and ready for goods issue prior to production release.
- Oversee warehouse layout, location control, inventory organization, material flow, and point-of-use readiness.
- Lead transaction compliance in Sage 300 and AutoSimply, including receipts, transfers, adjustments, and inventory movements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory confidence, warehouse efficiency, system accuracy, and operational readiness.
- Develop, coach, and lead inventory, receiving, warehouse, and material management personnel.
Performance Measures
Success in this role will be evaluated through the following KPI categories:
- Inventory accuracy, inventory confidence, and location integrity.
- Material readiness for planned production and goods issue execution.
- Shortage visibility, escalation effectiveness, and production support performance.
- Cycle count execution, transaction compliance, and adjustment trends.
- Warehouse organization, bin system integrity, material flow, and storage utilization.
- Inventory health, WIP visibility, finished goods traceability, and inventory control discipline.
- Team development, process accountability, and continuous improvement execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Five or more years of leadership experience in inventory control, materials management, warehouse operations, manufacturing supply chain, or related functions.
- Experience leading teams in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory control, warehouse operations, material flow, cycle counting, and transaction discipline.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, inventory management processes, and barcode or scanning-based warehouse controls.
- Ability to analyze material requirements, inventory demand, shortages, and production readiness risks.
- Demonstrated ability to drive accountability, process discipline, cross-functional communication, and operational improvement.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Sage 300 ERP and AutoSimply.
- Experience managing inventory or warehouse operations across multiple facilities.
- Experience supporting demand planning, production planning, materials planning, or MRP processes.
- Understanding of forecasting, production scheduling, inventory optimization, and material readiness planning.
- HVAC, sheet metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or engineered product experience.
- APICS, CPIM, CSCP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related certification.
